I don't get it either. As an Italian-American, I could appreciate so of the storylines of this show, but others like this one I found insulting and offensive. Now that we have some insight into how warped Hollywood's "artists" are, maybe this episode was an inside joke. Instead of exposing their own people, they scripted out "normal" Italian-American characters having a flippant attitude and total cold-stone disregard for human life -- like them.

I like the episode for comedic value alone, but did he really get away???

If he did, he would have eventually made it back to his mob, told what happened to him and there would have been retribution on their part.

The fact it's left unfinished would lead me to believe they did kill him, not outright, but he died of his wounds in the woods

Agreed

What was up with Paulie's face when he was staring out of the car window near the end?

He knew if the Russian didn’t die and reappeared, it would have been disastrous for him …

One of the funniest parts to me was Tony getting pissed about the cell service. Relatable

That and Tony laughing at Bobby in the kitchen and Jr's smug look.

When filming the shot of Tony's reaction to Bobby's hunting gear, Steve Schirripa changed things up. The actor walked in wearing a strap-on dildo, to the surprise of James Gandolfini. The shot of Tony leaning on the sink and laughing was actually Gandolfini's genuine reaction to seeing the dildo, with that take making it into the final episode.
