While the titular host of Late Night With Seth Meyers may have been a surprising choice to host the 2018 Golden Globes, he is actually just the man for the job. The unofficial kickoff of Hollywood’s awards season, the Golden Globes is an informal ceremony where food and alcohol are served to the nominees and the ceremony is considered more relaxed and festive than the Oscars. Meyers, whose comedic style frequently resembles a frustrated academic more than a late-night comedian, was considered by some too depressing, or at least too mild of a personality, to emcee such a celebratory event. But, when taking into account the onslaught of sexual harassment charges reported from Hollywood, Meyers, who has repeatedly proven himself to be a feminist ally, is the perfect person to stand behind the mic.

Hollywood awards shows are often considered self-congratulatory liberal love fests, but the 2017 Golden Globes detoured from the usual festivities, focusing more on current events and the nervous tension in the country. People described the evening, writing, “The presenters were mostly all business and seemingly sober, the winners were mostly thoughtful and serious, acting the part of gracious if abashed. The worries of the world – and specifically, worry over President-elect Donald Trump – weighed heavily on their smoothed brows and fuzzy faces.”

But along with political commentary, Meyers’ show has provided a platform for women unseen on many other late-night shows. The show’s writing team of 12 includes three women, a ratio that could increase but is still higher than other shows. Writers Jenny Hagel, Amber Ruffin and Allison Hord are featured in segments spotlighting their perspectives as women, such as “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell,” which includes bits about women, people of color and LGBTQI issues – jokes that should not be told by a straight, white man. Instead, Hagel and Ruffin deliver the punchlines of each joke – and were recently joined by guest star Hillary Clinton.

What a bunch of shite. His performance back at the 2014 Emmys may be the worst hosting I've ever seen with James Franco's Oscar performance being the only one that can compare. This is the same guy who said he's proud to live in a country where it's no longer appropriate to make fun of Bruce Jenner getting a tit job. All this SJW he's going to talk about are how great women are and not go after anyone but Trump and Weinstein.

The person they should have chosen is obvious: Ricky Gervais. He's made a career ripping Hollywood and even calling them out for being predators in the past. He would have killed and the whole country would tune in just to see him rip Hollywood to shreds. Instead we're just going to get a "Aren't women incredible" and "Trump is evil" from the Golden Globes this year. The ratings will be awful.
