Didn't finish any of these because they are not in the same class as the Sopranos.

Could be possible. They made a point to have the head FBI guy on his case Italian and Agent Grosso, and Pussy's handler being Italian. Showcasing, the stark difference between the "immigrant experience" I suppose. However, he could have just as easily been a zip like the ones Tony uses for hits, flown in to do the work.

For the post above, those shows are all great but nothing tops or equals the Sopranos in my humble opinion.

He's dead. The final scene is seen through Tony's eyes. Everything you see is from Tony's POV. When the screen goes to black, you're seeing what Tony sees

That’s your opinion. But that’s not true according to David Chase. He’s directly says on multiple occasions that it was intentionally left to the viewer’s interpretation.

He did have another finale where Tony got killed. You don’t see him get killed, but there is a direct implication. They chose not to go with that one. Instead they left it up to the viewers. He said this one gave a glimpse of how Tony would live the rest of his days, however long that may be. Always looking over his shoulder wondering if he was about to die. Pretty genius if you ask me.

I believe there’s an interview where david chase accidentally admits that Tony was killed.

Watched the finale at a bar that had a weekly watch party.

People were pissed because they thought the feed was cut.

When the credits came on they were more pissed.

Don't know if I could watch a TV show like that at a bar, I saw a couple different videos of "watch parties" for GoT and it looked miserable. Hopefully people weren't shouting out random shite.

It wasn't a sports bar. Closer to a WI supper club, although it was in Elmhurst, so it wasn't a rowdy crowd. Wine was served.

That makes far more sense now but they’re reaction was very similar to others. I know I wasn’t alone in my reaction to the ending but as time went on I understood the director’s decision, can’t say the same for GoT.

While Pine Barrens is considered by many to be one of the best Sopranos episodes, it should be pointed out that is awful hard to get lost with unmolested snow on the ground.

Like I said, there is another ending where Tony IS killed, and there are numerous interviews where Chase specifically says the ending they went with is left to viewer interpretation. It was supposed to mimic the unknowing and paranoia that Tony would have to live with for the rest of his days. That’s directly from Chase speaking directly to the point.

And even if there is an interview where he “accidentally admits” that Tony was killed, there is nothing definitive about the way the scene is written. It’s still up to interpretation.

I posted this in another thread (or maybe this one) where Chase says that he was misconstrued about the ending, but its always been up to the viewer and he said there was only two things that could have happened. Death, or our journey into his life, as a viewer, just ended and life went on.

Link to Clips from Talking Sopranos - go to 8:05

ETA: I may have already posted this in this thread, we have a few Sopranos threads running right now lol. If so, I apologize.

I just remember watching the clock for time left in the episode expecting something, anything, to happen to wrap up the show and then when nothing happened and it went blank I was like WTF? Thinking something happened to the HBO feed until the credits rolled. At that point I was unfulfilled thinking "that's it?". After a couple of minutes it was "wait, did Tony just get whacked?". Dang.

Im jealous of people who got to watch it weekly. I was fairly young and didn't end up getting HBO until college, although I remember all the hype. But I already knew there was a lot of talking about the ending so I halfway already knew.

Those two shows really were peak HBO. I don’t know if the impact that those shows had on TV (and now streaming) writing in general can really be overstated. They proved that you can take the time to build complex characters and tell detailed stories without losing viewers’ attention. They basically wrote episodes like chapters in a novel. They were also pretty dark compared to other TV at the time IIRC.

Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Americans, Justified, Boardwalk Empire, etc. all draw from those shows to some extent.

Naw, they buried him... on a hill... overlooking a little river... with pine cones all around.
