Is there another song in a movie that gained as much fame as this one from being in a movie?
Great topic.
How popular was the song Pretty Woman when it first came out?
I will Always Love you doesn't count because it was a remake.

Nope.
That was written AS the theme song for Rocky 3 at Sylvester Stallone's request.

The only reason this song took off is because of the homey that came in, scooped up the mic after Maverick dropped it and ripped off...
"babay, babay...I get down on my knees for yyyooouuuuu.

That homey was Sundown, and he sucked it up on the mike.

One of my favorite movie scences ever but i dont think the song really took off after that.

I know it wasn't insanely popular because of the movie, but before I saw "I love you man" I had never heard a song by RUSH, or if I had, I didn't know it. But it seemed like I'd hear it on the radio a few times a week after that movie.
Also Paper Planes by MIA got big after the Pineapple Express trailer. I think it came out a few years before that, and it was on Slumdog Millionaire.

I had an argument with this one mongoloid that thought Bushwick was the midget in Bad Santa.

Any Kenny Loggins song. Just a few popular movies to feature his songs:
Top Gun
Footloose
Caddyshack

Oh, I think the Program brought back "Welcome to the Jungle" pretty hard. I know I had lost my Appetite For Destruction tape and went and bought the CD right after that movie came out.

Pretty sure all those songs were written FOR the movie. We're talking about songs that were around before the movie and were resurrected.

Again, no.
He wrote those songs FOR those movie soundtracks. Kenny Loggins was known as the king of movie soundtracks.
