Nintendo is the new Disney at the box office if they play their cards right, which they will.

Nintendo can be the new Marvel may be a more apt comparison.

Would be cool if they made a few more movies of characters first to set it up

Nintendo is absolutely going to be the next Marvel and they’ll stay true to the source material with Zelda, etc. and that’s why they’ll crush.

Seems like a big jump without a few other movies first.

Get the Zelda universe and Metroid introduced first.

I don't really think they have enough characters that people care THAT much about to be the next Marvel.

Mario Bros movies was a great animated film, but they need to show that they can make a great live action film before we start saying they are the new Marvel. Marvels success run up to Endgame is likely something that will never be done again.

To be fair... neither did Marvel. For the average American (i.e., those that don't read comics) the most recognizable super heroes are Superman, Batman, and Spiderman. Even ones that people may have at least heard of generally (Captain America and the Hulk) were way behind those 3.

What those Marvel movies did at their peak was incredible. Obviously Superman and Batman weren't theirs and they didn't even use Spiderman until after a fair amount of other Marvel movies had been released.

The fact that they made you care about what had been "B-level" characters (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor) and made them so recognizable was pretty incredible. The fact that they took obscure characters that no one had ever heard of outside of strict comic readers (GOTG, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, Loki etc.) and made you care about them and turn at least some of them into must-see TV and film was also very impressive.

TL;DR - Nintendo has a shite ton of characters it can make you care about if done right. Just as Marvel did for so long.

I'm not sure what tier he would be but you had Iron Man comics since the 60's and successful live action comic book movies in general for decades.

With Nintendo you have the games but with a much more limited story than Marvel and no real live action movie success.

Are there 5-10 Nintendo characters that people would really want to see live action movies about? Honest question, I have no idea.

Plus, if there’s to be some Super Smash universe I assume they may be able to include characters Nintendo is partially involved in like Pokémon or from companies that work with Nintendo to be in the Smash games (Capcom with its street fighter and mega man characters for example).

So you're saying it can be the next Marvel but be mainly animated?

Donkey Kong

Because this would have to be animated to be a success as well.

Don't think those could be remotely as popular as characters like Captain America, Thor, etc. I just can't see billion dollar Samus and Kirby movies

For me, it would have to be live action to be comparable to Marvel, and to pull off the top characters, I think Nintendo will mainly need to stick to animated. We'll see how Zelda goes.

For the most part, video game movies/tv shows suck. It's just the truth. Nintendo pulling off one animated movie doesn't convince me that's they are the next Marvel and definitely aren't already there.

Not sure. Never saw them but from all accounts they were pretty good. That would be a good start for them on having characters already established that could be added to a future Nintendo Avengers type ensemble movie. Which I guess is what Smash Brothers is technically.

Zelda universe
Needs to be a trilogy or a series with a few seasons. The world is too big to try to cram a Zelda storyline into a 2-3 hour movie
