Can’t wait for this. Glad they’re doing it while some of these vets can still do interviews

Will they show the raids on Romania? Did the 100th do this or someone else?

Guess I'm going to have to watch Memphis Belle again.

Great book, I'll recommend it independently of the TV series.
Our bomber losses were staggering and the hardship of that service is terrifying. Catch-22 makes a whole lot of sense after seeing what these boys went through.
My father had two co-workers who were trying to kill each other over Berlin - one was a US bomber navigator, and the other was firing AA from the ground in Berlin. They found at least 3 dates where they were involved in the same air attack.
I hope the Swiss do not get spared in this adaptation. Contemptible behavior. They kept our pilots in POW camps that were hell. Far worse than anything in Germany. And then when the war was obviously lost for Germany they started sucking up to us and treating our POWs humanely. Fack them.

They simply have to do this. And Leuna in Germany. Both were hell for the bombers.
At one time I worked for BASF and visited their Ludwigshafen site a few times. The US dropped more bombs on Ludwigshafen than any other site in Germany, Berlin included. (It was largely the Brits targeting Berlin - they wanted blood). I knew a couple of engineers who were there during the war. Some incredible stories. We really were not destroying the plants so much as killing all the operators. They could fix the plants quickly. They could not replace experienced operators.

I will be counting the days until this comes out.
Walked through a B-17 earlier this year and despite still being in fairly good shape, I was awestruck at the narrow confines the Fortress air crews had to work in during the war. It was quite a tight fit going through the midsection and that was without 8- 500lbers being on the racks nor ammo for the side/belly guns. Gave me a new appreciation for the young men who risked their lives daily flying over Germany on their missions.
As for the ball turret on the belly....screw that. You had to be a rather small individual to even have a chance of fitting in that thing. Claustrophobia notwithstanding.

Just hope it doesn't become too self-aware of its greatness.

Since my dad was a WWII paratrooper nothing tops Band of Brothers for me, but if this even close it will be awesome.

Hopefully the characters have good development. Band of Brothers mastered this. A main reason I can never finish The Pacific is because the characters are forgettable and I don't care any of them.
“The Pacific” kind of moved around focusing primarily on 3 Marines (Leckie, Sledge and Basilone) in different units, different battles. It was kind of difficult to form an attachment to any one of them because it hopped around so much. BoB, on the other hand, focused on one unit (Easy Company). You grew to love those guys.
My understanding is that the new miniseries is going to be more like BoB...a good overview of the air war in Europe, but focusing on the crew of one B-17.

Awesome. This is the first im hearing about this and cant wait. BoB is the best thing ive ever seen on TV. The Pacific was not as likable and kind of depressing, but I guess a lot of that had to do with the differences in the actual stories/characters.
So im wondering if I should read this now:
or wait until after the series? I saw BoB before reading the book(s), and thoroughly enjoyed both, because i was able to get added details from the book. For The Pacific, I read the book first, then watched the movie and was underwhelmed by both.

quote:idk why you are getting down voted but what you said is spot on. BoB made you care for the characters. Pacific flopped at that and was just all over the place.

Which book? It was based on multiple books by different authors.
And if you’re underwhelmed by the horror that was the Pacific theater in WWII then idk what to tell you. The European theater was positively gentile in comparison to the Pacific theater when talking about American involvement in the conflicts.

Had no idea about the Swiss's involvement during WWII. I always just assumed they were harmless and neutral. Just read an article about the subject. Crazy.

Just like in Band of Brothers and The Pacific, there will be interviews of the actual veterans featured either before or after each episode.
How many of these guys are left?
Yeager is of sound mind I'm pretty sure but the guy just turned 96.

They’re not forgettable if you read their stories. I’d guarantee that you would have a different opinion of the hell these “forgettable” characters went through in the Pacific. I’d rather be in the European Theater 10/10 times than the Pacific.

Insert every single "In" gif.
Not only will this be perfectly done, it will cause an entirely new generation to watch Band of Brothers & The Pacific. It might "cure" a few 100,000 millenials when they realize just how good they have life these days.
