Biopics in general are meh at best. 9 times out of 10 I’d have rather just watched a documentary on the artist.

The problem with the vast majority of biopics is the conflict. A Complete Unknown the conflict was he wanted to go electric and the folk scene didn't want that. From here in the future not much of a conflict I know who Dylan is so it worked our for him. This Springsteen one he was struggling with depression and wanted to put out this album. Again, in the future I know how it worked out.

I guess you could make a biopic about an unknown artist and I can wonder how the conflict goes but usually that's not the kind they make anymore.

you're not talking about conflict being the problem, for you the problem is the resolution.

By your standard, we could never have celebrity biopics, since we already know:

Sgt York will capture the Germans

Custer will have trouble with The Indians

Lou Gehrig will make a speech

etc etc etc...

I saw it Friday and really liked it. I think JAW was very good but he doesn't disappear into the role or anything and he does his own singing. I am a Bruce fan and a Nebraska fan and read the book last week. I'm not sure the appeal for a non Bruce fan and it's not a typical jukebox musical, outside of Born to Run and Born in the USA it's basically all songs from Nebraska.

I did like it better than A Complete Unknown but think Chalamet was a better Dylan than JAW was Bruce.

I'm a Springsteen fan and thought the movie was very good overall, Jeremy Strong was top level as Jon Landau his manager. Tough subject matter in the movie. I would give A Complete Unknown 5* and Springsteen 4*. I liked the Nebraska release way back when and glad it was the focal point of the movie.

I’m waiting for the Bob Segar movie to come out instead.

Just because someone has some good songs doesn't mean we need a biopic about them.

I agree in principle.

But I'd love to see an accurate portrayal of the Eddie Van Halen's rise into super-stardom.

The talent, debauchery, and chaos must have been mind-boggling.
