What does it matter if she's a woman or not though? I have yet to see a reasonable explanation for why it's so egregious to have a female heroic lead in two out of eight movies in a series.

because TD has the biggest persecution complex ever known

What is the deal with this movie? It's not Episode 8 right? Is it a spin off or what?

It's too heavy handed coming up immediately after TFA with a female lead.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned but damn I do love the effects of this new trilogy. It is no way meant to take away anything from the other films or even say anything about the story of the new ones but I remember seeing the first TFA trailer and thinking, "Damn the Falcon and the fighters look fantastic, I think we finally get to see how agile and quick these things are supposed to be"

That clip of the Imperial Walkers had me feeling the same way about their enormity.

I mean assuming that the Star Wars universe has a similar ratio of men to women as the planet Earth, then 2 out of 8 is a bit underwhelming when you consider it's about 50/50.

I'm sure Vader will be handled similar to Godzilla by Edwards. You'll hear breathing or see the back of him until the final act.

It precedes A New Hope and while within the time line and involving familiar story lines, it is the first SW feature movie not directly centered around the Skywalkers.

Why is it "too heavy handed"? 6 of the 8 movies have been with male leads.

I don't know about the Episode numbering specifically. It takes place between Episode 3 and 4.

It is not an episode. It's a part of the new anthology series. They will all say "a Star Wars story"

If they didn't make Rey a Mary Sue, people wouldn't complain. I liked Rey as a character personally but the suspension of disbelief was a bit much with her abilities. Luke never did a Jedi mind trick until after seeing Obi-Wan do it and after being trained by Yoda. Rey just somehow knew how to do it despite wondering if Jedi were just a myth.

Rey also held her own in a fight against a man. Not only that but the man was trained by Luke Skywalker himself. Rey had no training. It'd be like Luke holding his own against Vader with no training from Yoda. Maybe they will shed more light on this in the sequels to make it more realistic. Say she was trained at Luke's temple as a child before getting amnesia. Until then though, she is a Mary Sue.

Yeah, the AT-ATs got me. Much like the teaser trailer for SW7 showing the Falcon, seeing AT-ATs in action for the first time since I was 8 years old got me giddy.

(Before anyone jumps me, I know there was an AT-AT on the Endor moon in ROTJ, but it wasn't in action.)

That will be lame. I wanna see him have a big role slaying fools.

People are complaining because it's two women in a row and they think it justifies their argument that Disney is just pushing a socialist agenda. It doesn't really have anything to do with how Rey was portrayed (and I don't think it was a poorly as you're portraying it).

If that was the case it would almost certainly be a non-white female lead.

I don't really see Rey as being perfect...she's a tech head who is strong with the force

It's not like she hopped in the fa on and jetted off like it was as easy as hopping in a car

Like every character in the prequels, she's also emotionally vulnerable, and destitution isn't exactly an idealized situation.

A man that was bleeding out after taking a bowcaster to the rib cage.

Plus, I'm willing to bet she was previously trained as a Jedi.

I just watched the Collider video that just uploaded regarding the trailer and they said it was a bacta tank that the cloaked figure is approaching. I didn't think that all day and going back to watch, I still don't see how that is obvious. Doesn't look like one to me.

Don't even start with these idiots.

If they don't know how fricked up he'd be from a bowcaster, I don't know what to tell them.

Bleeding from one wound and he had another one on his shoulder

Her piloting skills are unrefined and she isn't the perfect gear head as demonstrated by how she fricked up and released the monsters

She came across to me as a jack of all trades in terms of skills while being an emotionally vulnerable and destitute loner

It looked to me as if she was ready to murder the shite out of Kyle ren, and had to think about selling bb8 (it wasn't a slam dunk, I'm the good guy, never! decision)

No doubt she's freaking awesome but ideal? No. In terms of hotness, yes
