I like the old tv-series Holliman was in, co-starring with Andrew Prine, "The Wide Country," about two brothers on the rodeo circuit. Came out the same year as the other rodeo-themed series, "Stoney Burke," with Jack Lord, which was even better. "Wide Country" wasn't as immersed in the rodeo milieu as that series, being a bit more like a "Route 66" imitation. But it had some good episodes.

Met Holliman at a party once, rather briefly. I recall we talked about both being from Louisiana. At the party, I saw him sitting at a long table, with a group that included Dick Sargent and Rip Taylor. Which was... rather telling.

His longtime bf was Anthony George. AG is probably best known for Dark Shadows, but his best role was as the lead in the classic detective series Checkmate (1960-2). He wasn't very good, but his costars Doug McClure & Sebastian Cabot were.

I saw an episode of this once. I wanted to like it, but it just wasn't that interesting

Lord's best show - a lost classic.

PS If you want to go down a rabbit hole, google Andrew Prine & Karyn Kupcinet

Yeah, I have a vague familiarity with that notorious scandal. I saw Andrew Prine at a couple of different shows/conventions, many years after I met Holliman. I told Prine about it, mentioning that party I met his co-star, and saying it wasn't exactly 'my kind of crowd' there. Prine gave me a really funny, knowing glance and under his breath said 'yeah, I know what you mean!' Anyway, I always hoped Prine was completely innocent of that aforementioned tragedy or whatever, as I rather liked him personally. Indeed, I think he was pretty conclusively cleared of anything nefarious, being elsewhere at the time of the girl's death. But it did put a bit of a dark cloud over his career for a brief while.

I remember him well. Barely remember him from Police Woman with Angie Dickinson when very young, but mostly from The Sons of Katie Elder and multiple rewatches of one of my favorite films, Giant, where he plays the young rancher husband of one of the Benedict girls. Had no idea he was gay. Had no idea he was from Louisiana. Learn something every day. RIP sir.

He married Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor's daughter in Giant (1956). When Rock's son, played by Dennis Hopper, doesn't want to run the ranch, Rock tells Earl's character he wants him and the daughter to take over. They tell him they just want a small ranch of their own. They tell Rock that, " "big stuff is old stuff."

Here's a pic of Rock about to respond back to them with, "Big stuff?"

It's a great quote, but IMDb nor any of the other "quote" websites had it. I did find it on some obscure blog. Hamlette's Soliloquy
