FFS, it wasn't Ward and June Cleaver, but it was 80's Hollywood's version of a typical middle America family.
A family with 3 or 4 boys... yeah. Actually closer to normal than not.

quote:I told my wife at the get-go that if NASA said they needed a fat white guy with an unusual level of comic book knowledge who knew all of the words to Freebird, I'm on the first one way trip to Mars.
At the end of the day he chose to leave his wife and children and go with the aliens. Pretty sad.
She asked me how many pairs of underwear she should pack for me.

Dreyfuss's character was under the influence of some type of mystical attraction to Devil's Tower due to some unexplained powers that the aliens had. He was drawn there and could not resist. The aliens selected various people and basically put some type of spell or mind control on them. on them.

at the end, one of the aliens comes up to him in the line and leads him by hand into the spaceship
was he the only one that was actually permitted to go with them, because he had been pre-selected? did none of the others that NASA (or whatever shadowy agency the Truffaut’s character worked for) had prepared for the journey actually get to go?
and what was the deal with this chick?

the thing i remember about that movie was the hype, it was a christmas release in 1977, stars dropped in the summer of 77 and it just didn't live up to the hype in my opinion.

What a weird melt over a film made 40 years ago. Is this forgettable film really that important to you?

By all means continue your obsession with arcana, grandma. Do you have an anecdote about talkies too?

The extra footage of inside the alien ship was a real let down. Just more brightly colored ice cream cones and flying orbs. Nothing all that compelling, to be honest.
But the OP is a bit ridiculous. Totally ignoring the point of the movie.

Meanwhile Close Encounters enjoys a near 100% score from both audiences and critics but you be you and enjoy feeling smart for shitting on a movie you've never seen.
