It's like all the people upset about how he portrayed Luke forget a huge important part of his character was internal conflict. In fact that IS his character. Anakin was the same, the Skywalker bloodline is conflicted.

What happened in TLJ was consistent with Lucas' Luke. He's not superman or Jesus.

Sorry man. No part of Luke would ever give up on Vador even knowing he had murdered countless people. But we are supposed to believe he would give up on Kylo for having dark thoughts?

Luke always went towards danger. Never hid from it.

And most of all Luke would never just kick back and milk alien tits knowing his sister was in danger.

Luke's biggest weakness was probably his optimism. I'm cool with him running off to a secluded planet, but everything about it was not true to the character. No way he even thinks of killing Kylo in his freaking sleep, and when Rey shows up and tells Luke what is going on he would have jumped at the opportunity to save the day. Luke was never my favorite because of he was so overly optimistic in all of the movies.

Jesus dude, he gave up for a moment, and that shame caused him to want to go into exile.

Musick is right. Luke was a bitch most of the time and not some all-powerful jedi master who could do no wrong.

Johnson insists he made a movie on his vision of how he pictured the way things should be but he cant hide the truth, Disney is the one who really calls the shots and gave him the outline/parameters of what they wanted and within those guidelines is what he had to work with.

So in a sense you could feel bad for him.... but frick that. He rarely disagreed or put up any resistance to what they wanted so this is what we got.

A flaming dumpster fire of what could have been.

Its true

If you dont think so, go back and watch the OT so it's fresh. Luke is all over the place. That's his character. He gives up completely at one point. In his defining moment he still almost went the other way.

He drew a saber on his sleeping nephew. A child.

And then goes on to do nothing about his nephew killing his students, killing his best friend and trying to kill his sister.

Luke was never even close to this. Please point out these moments in the trilogy so we can laugh.

You know that one moment he bested old arse Darth Vader? When he let his hate and anger (dark side) at Darth Vader turning his sister get to him? Yeah that's the only time he did anything of worth. He then almost died and had to have his weak arse old dad bail him out.

He's not and never was infallible

ETA- It took him looking at his hand and realizing he was turning into his father for him to throw the light saber away.

Right. Luke was seduced by the dark side, and the Emperor tried to recruit him. It was all part of his growth as a person and a Jedi. Luke did nothing remotely close to the shite he did in TLJ.

Well, that and that whole saving the entire Rebellion thing when he blew up the first Death Star.

Yeah he was a good pilot. Doesn't mean he could do no wrong.

Some of you people think Luke is Jesus Christ

Obviously he has faults. But the shite revealed in TLJ goes well beyond that.

Holy crap. lol

That is the point. Luke resisted the dark side at all attempts to seduce him. Vader reads his mind and finds out about Leia and says he will turn her. He goes into rage to protect his sister. But still comes out and throws down his saber.

He could not even get to him from using Leia.

The same Leia that he is just okay with getting blown up in TLJ.

Well, the Emperor was worried that left unchecked that Luke would be a major threat and potentially stronger than both him and Vader so, yeah, 35 years later I was kind of looking for a very powerful Jedi Master and not somebody that has a freak out to the point of almost murdering his nephew in his sleep and then getting his arse kicked by him.

Did he kill Kylo? I missed that part.

He obviously realized what he was doing and that it wasn't right. He was just too late in putting down the saber which caused Kylo to bring everything down.

This one made sense. Rose knowing how to fly made none.
