I think if schools showed this movie to every 6th grader in America the use of hard drugs would drop significantly over time.

One of my favorite movies of all time, I guess I'm one of the few that re-watch it every now and then.

I think its needs to be watched more than once to really understand the full effect of the movie. For me, anyway.

Be excited, Be Be excited! Great movie that I rewatch every couple of years. "Spun" is another good drug movie.

OK, I'm only about 30-40 minutes in, and it's pretty good so far. All I gotta say is damn Jennifer Connelly is fine in this movie.

Damn, I finished a little while ago and I was literally at a loss for words. That's a movie that leaves a scar on your brain.

My head hurts.

Every time I watch that movie (top 10 for me) I spend the last 20 minutes walking in circles, scratching my arm, pressing my forehead with my hand, etc. That movie is so damn tough to watch at the end.

I didn't know whether to cry or cover my eyes or just grit my teeth and bear it.

One of my best friends from high school got hooked on meth really bad. One day I took this movie over to his house and we watched it (I was kind of hoping it would be an eye opener for him). He had probably been up for several days before we watched it, and I think the movie really messed with his head. He ended up killing himself a couple of months later. I don't know if the movie had anything to do with his suicide, but I've often wondered if it did.

i think the only way you can appreciate requiem for a dream is if you have experience with heroin or speed.

I've never touched an illegal drug (although a guy I grew up with died of a heroin overdose) but I still thought it was a very good film, albeit disturbing. It definitely leaves a mark.

drugs really have nothing to do with the film

It's not a film about drugs

it's a film about people chasing their version of the american dream, but to say drugs have nothing to do with the film is silly. the way some scenes were filmed was to mimic the way people feel on uppers.

to elaborate on my initial statement, i would say its more the storyline of the mom that could only be appreciated/understood if you have experience with speed. honestly id probably like the movie a lot more if the mom's storyline didn't exist and it was only about leto, connelly and wayans.

Requiem for a Dream makes Trainspotting look like a commercial for drugs. I've watched Trainspotting multiple times, I have zero interest in seeing Requiem again. It was just too disturbing. You see the horrid shite people do to themselves to get drugs.

I have both but only watch them occasionally, Gummo is the one I don't want to see again.

da fuq?

Sara's story is a counterbalance to everything that goes on. You have to have her story, as someone older STILL chasing dreams, mirrored to the kids. It all wraps so well together.

That, and I'll say it again, her performance in that role is off the charts. Insanely good.

We watched this in Sociology class my senior year of HS.

I guess luckily it was broken up over 2 days, cause I'm sure it would have messed up my fragile young mind.
