Yeah Toonami showed the edited versions. You had to specifically go to suncoast and buy the unedited sagas.
Well the first time I watched it I was 11 years old and I religiously made sure to be home by 4:30 or I flipped my shite. 11-15 year old Breesus didn't have the resources or ability to go to Suncoast and buy things.

I used to get off of school just in time to catch DBZ, but one of my friends whom I road the bus with didn't. Once a week, though, my mom would pick me up from school, meaning that I would get home in time to set up the VCR to record it, so I made a deal with him. I traded him 5 episodes of DBZ, and in exchange, I got his foil Charzard. 4th grade me was dripping with swag.

Very few shows have made me more anxious about watching the next episode as I was in the Freiza saga leading up to Goku going Super Sayain. I had no idea what was coming and Freiza was killing everyone and Vegeta was trying to redeem himself and his dying speech to Goku, etc....
I still rewatch Sayain through Cell once every year or so.
And I have never been more jacked up than when Gohan went SSJ2 v Cell. Goku's transformation v Freiza and Gohan's v Cell are still some of my all time favorite TV episodes.
Also, I'm pretty sure my parents never hated the house more than when I was obsessed with DBZ, or as my mom called it, that stupid screaming show where everyone screams. I had boxes and boxes full of vhs tapes next to my TV because I recorded every episode. And rewatched them constantly.

DBZ is a great intro, and still my favorite after all these years.
Getting more into the genre Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gundam Wing were my faves.

ETA: Nvm.....non-dubbed anime is a no-go for me. Just can't do it.
10. I really enjoyed AOT. DBZ is good as well.

lol my dad called it the screaming show. Hated it. We couldn't watch it on the living room tv when he was home.
I showed my girl DBZ 3 years ago(Huge Hayao Miyazaki, Pixar, Pokemon fan) She nerded out when we got to Gohan's SSJ2. If he was real I might be single right now.

Now that I think about it, DBZ is very addictive. It's an easy storyline to follow. I also recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

I will never forget the boner I got when Goku went SS for the first time.
I was like 10 sitting in my media room at home at like 1 a.m. watching late night toonami. It was the greatest moment of my life up to then.
DBZ, Yu-Yu Hakusho and Gundam Wing are my favorites of all time.

If you go with the English DBZ you miss alot of great scenes. For example Freiza torturing krillin for a while before he kills him is a gut wrenching scene and makes Goku's transformation that much more awesome
Pretty sure that isn't still the case.
I remember buying the Frieza saga on VHS back in the day when it first came out and they had options for unedited and the Cartoon Network edited versions. Then I believe they went back and redubbed episode 1 up to Frieza saga and released unedited with the newer voice actors.
ETA-I see this was addressed

Egg of the King is a dubbed movie...it sort of cuts parts of the Anime series and lazily pieces it together while rushing through the story. You need to find Berserk the series.

Not for this newest series of movies. It basically starts when Guts is a teenager and shows a couple shitty flashbacks of his childhood. The manga and original anime series are closer in that they both show you Guts later on in life for a bit, then they go back to the "Golden Age" arc which shows you more of Guts' childhood through his time in the Band of the Falcon.
But like Lombardi said, the 1997 anime series tells the story better than the recent 3 movies.
