Ehhh, a bit. I'd say this is my least favorite movie I've seen this year, but it's not TLJ bad by any means. The problem is the movie explains everything at the start, which pisses me off, and then when it stops the "go in reverse" thing happens, and then it completely lost me. It could have reeled me back in with good characters or action, but there wasn't really any. I loved the Shining sequence, I wish there was more of that. The Shining part was awesome.

Surely Spielberg could have come up with something better than going in reverse. Every nerd in the theater had to be thinking to themselves "That would have been the second thing I would have done". It's just bland and most of the action scenes I didn't really know what was going on. I'm not going to be thinking about this movie tomorrow though, I'll put it that way.

OML is an extremely emotional guy. I do agree with him about this movie though. It was terrible

no Gigli is terrible. Battefield Earth is Terrible.

while not perfect this film was far from terrible. it's like some of you post shite like "it's terrible" just to be edgy - which it isn't.

Saw it today.

Had very low expectations, in fact thought it would be terrible. But it wasn’t. I enjoyed it.

As someone who liked the book, and who the book was written for, I actually loved it way more than I thought.

I thought the trailers looked awful, and I was kind of prepping myself for it ruining the nostalgia, but the changes were actually worth it., and well done to get the book down to one two hour film.

I know it isn't for everybody, but I liked it.

The movie was alright but definitely didn’t do the book and the world justice. There just wasn’t enough time and everything felt too “local” and easy in the movie. The world of the Oasis and the global fight for control of it/the magnitude of the challenge really wasn’t highlighted well.

Honestly it should’ve been a two part or even three part movie with each movie about a different key/challenge.

Visually it was A, story was a B-

Wow. I normally agree with OML (aside from Blade Runner), but disagree completely here.

First off: Did you go in having read the book first? If so, things are a lot different, and pacing is completely different
Second off: As a popcorn film, did you sit back and enjoy the movie?

While not a perfect film, it was a good, perhaps improved adaptation from a book.

If you had no idea what was going on... I don't know what to say, they kinda spelled it out early and often as to "control of the oasis", or in modern terms control of facebook/twitter/youtube.

I thought it was fun, and I'm a book reader.

I don't know what scared them from at least a Part 1 and 2.

Ummm, not really since I didn't know all that much what was going on during the so-called "Popcorn movie". Like the race save for the main character and the chick on the Akira bike, I didn't really follow who was who, and then the final battle I just happened to recognize a few things, but even that was throwing me off since those two armies also blent together.

Plus I don't know the stakes. Sure the guy gets rich, but why is everyone else there? Also just the environments I thought were largely not all that imaginative. It seems at least a 1/3 of the time we're in that crappy library. Like who cares, give me some visually stimulating environments. Oh wow, a nightclub, something I've been to multiple times in my life. The only time I felt immersed was the Shining scene.

Also the characters all sucked. The only passable one was the black guy, and I highly suspect all they did was rip off Cyborg from DC. I couldn't describe any of the other characters if my life depended on it.

Yes, and what happens to everyone else if they don't get control of the oasis? I don't know the answer to this question.

There were only about 7 characters. Do you pay this little attention to all movies?

One of the sides was literally wearing the same uniform.

The movie answered this.

Did you go to the bathroom during the boardroom scene when he stated that research had proven they could cover 90% of a user's visual feed before inducing seizures while showing a simulation with dozens of glaring pop-up ads flashing inside someone's VR goggles?

So the stakes are ads?

That makes it worse that they only have 7 characters and don't flesh them out.

Kind of hard to tell when they're in vehicles and the battlefield looks like this:

What's there to "flesh out"? Most of the movie takes place in a VR computer program where you could do anything and be anyone to distract from who you really are.
