I dont know how this could be debated...at the end of the movie, that is a large, fugly, extremely dangerous thing with large teeth and tentacles, aka a monster...that comes out of the floor.

I think I would also classify the humanoid vice of teethy death a monster too.

for the most part, thats what i meant by "classic" monster movies. You could also include the sci-fi type flicks of the 50s(including Godzilla) and the Hammer studio movies of the 60s.

Not to take anything away from Jaws, or the 1982 version of The thing, but those are completely different type of movies.

Yeah, Jaws doesn't seem to fit. Monster, at least in my mind is something that doesn't really exist.

There has been talk for years about universal doing a creature from the black lagoon remake, I really hope it comes to fruition
