Deep Space Nine was the best Star Trek series, even despite being an idea stolen from J. Michael Straczynski.

This should be fun.

Seasons 2-4 of B5 are better than any stretch of Trek, and that's from a guy who grew up a huge Trek fan. DS9's Dominion War were the only thing close

and can we all agree that Dr. Katherine Pulaski is without a doubt the worst Chief Medical Officer in the history of Starfleet?

If you don't have Kirk #1 there is a 97% chance you're retarded.

Yeah, those that don't have Kirk #1 are exposing themselves as neophytes.

I'm just not operating under the assumption that banging the bottom out of the most alien broads is the one and only qualification for a starship captain...

Double false. 1) William T. RIKER served as an exchange officer as the FIRST Federation officer to serve on a Klingon ship. 2) A little known Federation officer named Worf Son of Mogh served on The IKS Rotaran during the Dominion War.

Also, all of that was out of my head, so I'll be crying myself to sleep now...

Dropping a nerd bomb all over this thread

If the qualification for being a great starship captain was being bald, French, and having an English accent, sure, Picard wins. For that matter, no, getting the most alien tail is just the bonus round when it comes to the awesomeness that is Kirk. Picard talked a good game but how many times did he save the earth/federation/galaxy/universe via a bare knuckled fist fight? For that matter how many times did he save via any method the earth/federation/galaxy/universe in comparison to Kirk? It may not have been weekly for Kick but it was pretty close to every 4th-5th episode and he clearly has the lead when it comes to the movies (I, II, IV, V, VI, XI v. VIII, X). For that matter, I am going to say Kirk would have had at least 1 more from Generations if Picard had not been so stupid when it comes to using power of the Nexus. Sure Kirk kicks some serious arse with his fists but he could have just come back like 2 days earlier and said, "hey, I think that Sauron (sp) dude is bad news" and Kirk could have come out to save the universe 5-6 more times.

If we're sticking to canon and not including novels* then i think we can pretty much equate Kirk saving Earth in IV to Picard destroying the Borg collective conscious in FC. In the tv series, both captains had numerous moments of "saving the world", it just all comes down to Kirk shooting first and asking questions later and Picard doing the opposite. Kirk is impulsive, Picard cerebral. Plus: Picard had his own winery, FTW

Also, we shouldn't forget Sisko's key role in saving the Alpha quadrant during the war.

*in the novels (Destiny trilogy) the Borg are fully explained and origined (is that a word?) and finally destroyed for good.

I gave credit to Picard for FC. Problem is the only other time he does it in the movies is in Nemesis, which is on par with Final Frontier. Kirk does it in 4 more movies. Also, the Kick impulsive/Picard cerebral argument is totally overplayed.

the sky being blue is pretty overplayed, but it doesn't make it any less true.

I= saves earth
II= spock saves the enterprise
III= saves spock
IV= saves earth
V= saves...nothing
VI= saves galactic peace
VII= saves veridian 3
VIII= saves the alpha quadrant
IX= saves the ba'ku
X= saves alpha quadrant
XI= saves the Federation

Kirk saving planets/races= 4
Picard saving planets/races= 4

besides, wasn't my role in this thread to champion Sisko? When did I start defending Picard?

Kirk, without Spock, took down the baddest Klingons in the galaxy.

Picard, without Data, useless.

B5 is one of the worst acted series I have ever seen and shut up muppet I went deep into season 2 before my brain threatened to commit suicide unless I stopped the torture.

. You were told to be patient. And by the way, Stargate SG-1 is far worse, at least in seasons 1-2.

ETA: beyond some unconvincing acting, the worst thing about Babylon 5 for me was the awful, generic, saturday morning show music. The series could have benefitted from leitmotifs and a competent composer.
