GQ interview with Frank Grillo

quote:

Peacemaker Star Frank Grillo on Becoming the DCU’s Nick Fury and the ‘Big’ Secret DC Project That’s Coming Next

The Marvel veteran is all over James Gunn’s new DC universe as Rick Flag Sr., who comes to Peacemaker looking for payback.

quote:

Frank Grillo: We were at the premiere, and I was like, “This is cool. Like I'm really entangled in this world.” And then this is why I love Gunn: we were at the afterparty, and he leaned in, “You know what we got coming next, right?” And I'm like, “No.” He goes, “We got something big—and you're all over it.” I don't know what it is, but he knows, whatever he needs me for, in whatever capacity, I'm in. My agents know, when the call comes, just say yes and we'll figure the rest out later. I feel very lucky that somehow I got my caboose attached to his train. I don't know how it happened, I don't know why it happened, so, at this point in my life, I'm just so happy it happened.

Do you have to reply to your alter in every thread? You know neither of you is watching this. Maybe if nerdrotic likes it you'll jump on board.
Gunn Cooked because of a small cameo that was already changed to the new line up?

Can't you talk to yourself in private and not pretend like you're two people who agree on everything?

You literally just said it wasn’t a fact in another thread once again proving how much of a liar you are.

No, i mean why is Gunn pushing Peacemaker so hard? I've never even heard of him before. Like how or Guardians of the Galaxy or Deadpool had a select following, with comic book fans. Peacemaker seems even more obscure.
It's not rocket science.

Peacemaker is a clean slate. He's a character from a small 60's superhero franchise that was mostly known for having Steve Ditko take over a short run of their Blue Beetle.

He's more famous for being the template for Watchmen's Comedian than anything else.

The irony of a punch-throwing, helmeted superhero going by "Peacemaker" makes him the perfect character for Gunn to twist into a comedic character.

Supergirl?
Yes. This took place prior to Superman, so no Metamorpho yet.

I think this one will be good to show us where all this is going and to keep that continuity.

Then Lanterns should be awesome and a whole new creator/cast, Supergirl and Lobo, Clayface, Batman II.. then we can get back to another Gunn project with the Justice Gang or whatever that’s going to be
Amazing how far he's gone from the Marvel model. Even with his own directorial projects he has a family Superman film on one end of the spectrum and the super-adult Peacemaker on the other. His directors won't have that "fit into the Marvel mode" corporate specter looking over their shoulders.

I can see that, he does the lighthearted and funny characters really well but he doesn’t evoke emotion or maybe a sense of stakes as well like other actors and directors (Bale, Cavill, Batfleck)

i think that GotG had way more emotions than the majority of the MCU. I say that as a fan of 90% pre-Endgame content

But I do agree that he's very good at lighthearted. He leans into the weird and goofy. Peacemaker is the chance to do that and go for a hard R rating.

I’m not a fan of the childish justice gang. Is this how they were in the comics?

Margot Robbie says she has not been approached about future DC projects.

New intro song is not as good. I tried to focus on the dance moves but kept getting side tracked by the song being meh. Episode was good but felt short. I'm excited to see the rest of the season but sad that I will skip the intro.

I agree, the DCEU can be wide open. You can have a super campy Superman, an ultra real Batman universe and an ultra violent Peacemaker all in the same world.

The intro didnt bother me. It's just a super silly dance. But yes the first season was better.
Still i would love to be in the coreography meeting for the show. Robert Patriick cracks me up. Mostly because that dude used to be my nightmare as a kid.

I never would’ve thought because I always saw him as the T-1000, but he’s a really cool guy if you follow him on instagram. Loves German shepherds and Harley’s

I will like this intro by the seasons end. of course when anything, you compare it to the previous seasons, at first it wont live up to expectations. but by the end it'll likely be just as great and impactful.

Same. I just don't think it's as good as the first season, but that doesn't necessarily render it as "bad".
