I don't know why but I thought the movie would have little more depth than it did. It's like a really bad version of The Martian only with one of the worst tropes in movie history...

dude has a secret that will ruin his relationship if perfect new girl finds out...which she always does from someone else. She hates him for 20 minutes then they see how much they love each other and all is forgiven.

I honestly have no idea how this movie got made and they got two such big stars to be in it. It's one of the least creative scripts I've seen in a while. And one of the more disappointing.

I got roped into going with my wife because she wants to be in the middle of a JL & CP sandwich. The movie sucked, but I got lucky later, so not a total waste.

I honestly really enjoyed Passengers.

Of course a lot of that might stem from how gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence looked in it.

I don't think it was bad. There was just absolutely nothing original or thought-provoking about it.

Like you said, the one interesting idea in the movie (the ethical and moral quandary of waking someone else up and essentially sentencing them to death on the ship) wasn't explored enough.

The first half of the movie about dealing with isolation/loneliness, albeit done better in movies like MOON and THE MARTIAN, was much more interesting before it turned into the cliche "save the world" action flick.

The third act "action" sequence and eventual resolution was beyond awful.

First act was good and made you think in a fricked up kind of way.

Middle act was meh and like you said, done before

Which was hilarious to me. She was red carpet levels of made up every day to live on a ship by herself.

Passengers may have dropped the ball on execution of the premise and plot but at its very core, it's basically cast away in space with a notebook style spin on it and still wound up being a good love story dash adventure story

Human beings are not built to live in complete solitary isolation with no contact and interaction with other human beings. I'm honestly surprised Jim lasted basically a year before going insane. It would be much shorter for other people. And its for that reason why its no wonder Jim couldn't resist waking up a beautiful woman he would eventually fall in love with and why Aurora eventually forgave Jim after she found out the truth and fell in love with him as well.

Human males need human females and human females need human males. Men and women do together do what men and women together do.

With that said, I felt like they cut the ending too short after the pool scene and then 88 years later. It need more emotional impact and to drive home the point that these two people were doomed to die of old age on this ship, I would've added some more scenes to show their age progression and if they have kids on it, whatever changes they make to the ship including the treehouse and the tree growing by the bar, what their room looks like, whether or not they frick all over the ship, whether they do any exploring and surveying of the area around and whether or not they get any messages back from Earth 55 years after they sent it.

But not intentionally as he's still a robot that still cannot completely understand human intentions, feelings and the meanings behind human language.

Hell when he spilled the beans to Aurora, he still did it with honest intentions and as best he understood the situation with what he believed to be the correct course of action.

The way the captain woke up just as the ship was about to be toast was pretty convenient. It's like the script writer just got tired of trying to figure out how these 2 could save themselves and said "frick it, I'm waking up the captain."

I enjoyed the movie for what it was. I think it presented a novel story idea and tried to do the best with it that it could. Especially considering 3 characters carried the entire movie. Way more original than the typical Hollywood product.

Decided to watch it on kodi and had very low expectations. It wasn't that bad. I kinda enjoyed it.

I agree. Not a great movie, but it was a decent watch when I was home sick for a day last week.

Best she's ever looked IMO.

I liked it. No, the main theme was not original. But setting it on a space ship like that, knowing they'll never reach their destination or ever interact with anyone else, made it more interesting.
