Paramount and California AG Bonta Have Officially Settled

Per the Journal’s report, the talks are “ongoing and there is no guarantee that an agreement will be reached.” Paramount and the California AG have “discussed compromises including Paramount agreeing to operate the two companies’ movie studios separately for a period rather than immediately combining them,” according to the WSJ article.

I'm not really for or against this particular merger but if they object to it why do regulators allow Netflix and Disney to be as big as they are?
Also, isn't this type of merger approval ridiculous to allow states to regulate? You can't have 50 plus different court systems and elected officials meddling for political points before the next election

Just the politicians, in this instance. There is no valid antitrust concern. I'm honestly not sure why Paramount would capitulation to anything.
Operating the two companies separately for a certain period of time would make the deal not worth it, based on what Paramount has stated previously.

If they truly did settle with these states, this sets an extremely dangerous precedent for antitrust cases moving forward.

Unless Ellison allows the blue states choose the editorial board, how can this be enforced. The CEO chooses that board.
