You’re taking Paul Thomas Anderson too seriously. He purposefully creates broad characters and situations partly as parody…

I'm curious to watch it when it comes to streaming. From what I've read about the book (never actually read any Pynchon yet), and some of the early articles about the movie, my expectation was that it would be something of an absurdist satire more than an endorsement or "timely" statement.

I never read the novel but I read a summary and review of it as a "primer" before going to the movie thinking it would be a somewhat normal adaptation.

The movie is completely different from the novel. It's almost like PTA just decided to completely re-write it and took a few of the plot elements and themes and just went in a completely random and biased direction with it.

If you think I made your point, I'm flabbergasted.

I think that must be your constant state

You said Penn took the job to lampoon MAGA. AFTER I said he would not have worked on the movie if he thought it made light of his own politics. So both of us agreed that the movies purpose is to make fun of MAGA. And yet you somehow missed your part in agreeing with that

This is my issue.

They should make at least one counter movie. Where trans people get pepper sprayed.

Would be more realistic than nazi fear mongering

Hollywood has a history of trying to wishcast things into existence.

Commander in Chief (2005-2006) , Madam Secretary (2015-2019) & even 24 (2007) were shows that dealt with a female President.

Deep Impact (1998) - Morgan Freeman as a black President.
