re: On phone calls in movies and TV shows, how come no one says “bye” when the call is done?

Character turns on the TV randomly and a critical news story just happens to be on.
Or else one character says "Hey, turn on the TV right now..." and the other immediately flips on a nearby TV to exactly the right channel and catches the full news story.

Because they have to be paid for that extra "line"

quote:Had a guy come help me put up some new blinds at my parents house. He's a couple of years younger than me and still uses a flip phone. He's a handyman for a bunch of other old people in the neighborhood. When I asked him about advertising, he said he used to always have an ad in the yellow pages, but doesn't do any advertising now. I told him he might get more people on Craig's List or even FB.
That one doesn’t bother me as much as shite tons of people in movies still using flip phones.
He said he doesn't have a computer.

Or accidentally says “love you” to a coworker at the end of a call
so for most of my early life talking on the phone I only really spoke to my family. Even as a young adult i texted friends.
So when I started a job that involves a lot of phone calls I had to catch my self constantly before I told every rando “I love you” before I hung up. Just a habit.

I had a surge of nostalgia recently and went back and watched a bunch of old Rockford Files episodes.
I've been watching them too. What is solid show that was.
I got interested because I watched an episode of Jay Leno's garage that featured the Rockford Pontiac Trans Am.
It turns out that Pontiac never offered that model in that color but James Garner selected the color especially for the show.

Had the exact same reaction to Rockford Files a few months ago.
Movie wise, John Wayne's Brannigan spends an inordinate amount of on screen time following him driving around London.
