I don’t agree that FMJ drops off, it just becomes a different movie. But I am in the minority on that.
I’ll remind everyone that the most famous line came out of the second half of the movie, “Me so horny, me love you long time.”

FMJ kills off its only interesting characters before the 2nd half of the film then tries to carry the rest with the comedic relief guy from the first half and it just falls flat.
Agreed.
I can understand not expecting the drill instructor to be so popular (as Ermey just owns every scene but was never expected to) but Vincent D'Onofrio as Pyle is also just so good. It is hard to continue after that.
I would be curious if the Marines or rest of the military would have protocols regarding how to finish basic training in light of a similar scenario.
Interesting tidbits:
The only women mentioned in the Wiki page for the movie are the sniper and the prostitute.
Ngoc Le, the sniper, didn’t appear anything again until 2016 (and that took some work to find) in what look like foreign independent films.
Papillon Soo Soo, the prostitute, was Pan Ho in “A View To Kill” and never reached that level again.
So neither had a lot of acting after the movie either.

I've never considered Natural Born Killers to be that highly regarded. It's interesting, but I wouldn't call it good by any means
Yeah I have a few issues with this list from a critique perspective, but this one being on here at all is odd. That movie sucks out loud and idk anyone who really thinks otherwise. The worst offender of the era of Tarintino rip offs (despite this sort of being Tarintinos script)

Tarintino hated Natural Born Killers so much, he asked to be removed from the writing credit and moved to “story by”. That movie is garbage.

They basically threw his script in the trash and kept the names.
In his version, RDJs character is the main POV and we don’t meet the two killers until the later part of the movie and they don’t ever really get a whole lot of narrative background like the movie. It builds them up as almost folk hero’s to paint the picture of how they get to the level of notoriety that is seen in the film and dives into RDJrs / the medias role in that happening.
Oliver stone decided subtext is for pussies and just made everything as surface level as possible with a crude paint on top to try to make it feel like a Tarintino movie
