Game Day: "You follow drugs, you get drug addicts and drug dealers, but you start to follow the money and you don't know where the f*** it will take you" Lester.

This opening sums up a lot of what this show is about. Avon and Stringer trying out ringers for the East Side /West Side BB game, the player gets $10K, then $5K "donation" for the CC program, but after the player leaves the agent guy asks for another $5K for himself. Avon just chuckles about how everyone has their hand out and everything costs. Also interesting that they are willing to spend $20K to win a $50K best. Obviously pride is big in this world, Avon and later WeeBey question Stringers strategy of letting Omar think they are willing to call a truce because of how it will look.

Prop Joe shows up

At the BB game Herc and Carver have no idea what Avon looks like, but Sydnor shows up and spots him. Syd has the curse of being natural police like Jimmy and Lester. Avon later outing the cops following him is great, once again Jimmy was right and while they are chasing him around for no reason, they get a call on the wire that no is there to verify.

"Look the part, be the part MFer!"

Prop Joe has some ridiculously awesome dialogue in this show. It only gets better.

I'm off today so I had to update the thread on my phone last night, which was a giant pain in the arse.

I will add my thoughts on the episodes and respond to shite tomorrow though. Hard to believe we're almost done with S1 already.

Watching EP 13 as we speak.

This show is just so brilliant. All of the politics involved in the S1 takedown of Avon, just awesomely well done.

And the ........, that hammers in on all of the fundamentals behind this type of urban culture.

That scene with Bode and Stringer is really telling.

It's just so hard to get a true handle on Bode, you can obviously tell he has conflict, with Poot being the one that makes him go over the edge.

Bode is one of the most underrated characters IMO. Super savy dude but for some reason doesn't feel as cold blooded as he appears to me. I dont know. Does anyone else feel this way?

Bodie's a soldier. For all practical purposes, Bodie is the McNulty of the Barksdale organization.

Good shout right there. Him against the world.

But you still see admirable sides to him, at least I do.

Freaux, you may want to edit. Cokes is trying to keep the discussion non-spoilery and within the range of the episodes being watch since we have some first-timers participating.

Episode 9 Game Day thoughts:

Avon with all I got is my name, cant let Omar take my shite (especially since Omar try to take him out at the end of the episode). String looking at the bigger picture. That ref was probably thinking he was gonna end up dead fricking with Avon like that. And it was a foul.

Wallace and Dee- another back n forth that shows both not meant for the game

Bubz must have been a great fisherman back in the day but man he looking the part

Herc trying to earn that tip, and they dropping $$$ all over the place.

Lester laying the groundwork with following the money and Shardeen. Barksdale and Bell banking, $25 mil, damnnnnnn

Prop Joe is a smooth sneaky dude.

It's not that much of a stretch - although it was a good day, Dee brings Stringer $20k from the low rises for a single day. Extrapolate that over the towers and corners - easily $100k to $125k per day, regularly, gross. That puts you at between $35 and $40 million, gross receipts, annually. They aren't exactly declaring this to be taxed. Paying the organization members (at least 200 people), Levy, bribes, and other overhead, I can see Avon taking in the neighborhood of $20 million and paying String about $5 million as deputy. Certainly their real estate and "legitimate" investments are consistent with that.

If not a little more.

OH I get that, was just more like they are banking. I had the impression String and Avon was like 50-50.

Wonder how much Avon had to give to keep his sister quiet.

And we have Wallace, Poot and Bodie making peanuts

And an allowance. He clearly favored family. Her upkeep was at least 6 figures.
