I missed the first 45 minutes, dammit. I assume it was the New Years massacre and aftermath.
Even though they were all crazy inbreds, the Hatfields definitely ended up better off as far as careers and stuff. Funny because they were IMO the most law breaking and dangerous.

Jonsey saved the Warden in the WV prison he was sentenced to, it led to him getting a pardon.

Loved it overall. Wish they couldve got the WV and KY accents right but if thats the worst thing that happened with the series i think we are doing alright. Id watch it again. I guess now when we visit West Virginia next moth ill have to make a trip down to see these places along the Tug River.

What was Jonsey convicted of. I didn't think he killed anyone. But he was there when the three McCoys were executed on the pawpaw bushes.

The McCoys were stupid, disorganized and mostly failed to act decisively.
The Hatfields were ruthless and cunning. Seems like the Hatfields had the numbers advantage.

Biggest retard moment?
My answer: when the McCoys killed Ellison at the social gathering.

The little I read on the subject the past few days. Everything seemed fairly historical. Closer than most historical mini series.
Not sure about the timber rights at the beginning.
Yeah. Closer than most I think. There were some liberties taken I think. I've read that the "lawyer" who got into the original timber rights dispute with Anse Hatfield was really a 13 year old orphan when it actually happened who was cutting timber on his own land and strayed a little onto Hatfields and Anse took him to the cleaners and got his land in a settlement. I doubt he was a lawyer that young so maybe that's what spurred him on to becoming one.
Probably are a good bit of others. But I think it's kind of hard to know the whole truth as there were probably diferent versions of what was happening from different sides even back then right after they happened.
Here's a cite to that version of the story. Though which versions are accurate I have no idea.

Yeah. I think this will make for some good reading for a lot of us on this thread.
On another note - I think Costner did a good job in this one. Hope this reinvigorates his acting. He can do some good work and some pretty bad work at different times.

I just read something about it that claimed it started that way and that they had several minor issues prior to the War.

Anybody else have trouble reading the facts at the end? I'm no McCoy but I'm not a speed reader either.

Just started watching Part 3. Why the hell did the Hatfields bring Mushhead along to get McCoy?
