agreed, they started the fight got an arse whipping and turned to knives and guns.

Really? I feel that outside of Jim Vance Hatfield, who is truly psychotic, the escalation to violence has almost been entirely on the McCoy side. The Hatfields are mean bastards, but the McCoys are stupid, brutish thugs.
As far as the series is concerned, the true triggering event when this became an outright war was when the McCoy boys murdered Ellison Hatfield without provocation. Before then, it was two families who hated each other – that’s when it became a “shooting war”.
Pretty much agree with all this. So glad that the McCoy boys got what was coming to them.

If the Lawyer doesn't die tonight I am going to PISSED. He sucks, and has caused a lot of this trouble.
Also, am I mistaken in thinking that the three McCoy boys would have been hanged if they had been turned over to KY anyway?
Or is the assumption that the only jury to be found in the area would have been all McCoy's so they'd get off?

Tom Berringer makes this movie. Even I want to go kick this POS arse. He needs to win a award or something for this roll

Milk eye is close to getting his.

I thought it ends in 1891 (according to wikipedia).

Everything ends about 1890 if my memory is correct.

Anyone know when they'll air a replay of part 3? I'm interested to see it but I simply can't bring myself to skip the USA-Brazil game tonight.

I'm sure they will replay it plenty.
I haven't researched it since the series came out. For some reason I thought the fued fired up again later for a few years.

1888 is when the excrement hits the air conditioning. I do like how Cap has become this acolyte of Jim Vance, though I do think the series is shifting responsibility from Devil Anse to Jim Vance. Come on, the guy's name was Devil Anse. He wasn't a peaceable guy, reluctantly drawn into the feud.

I wonder how much of the public's opinion is being swayed by Kevin Costner's acting?
In history the McCoy's are owned by the Hatfield's. The Union Soldier who was a McCoy was not looked highly upon by anyone including the McCoy's. It appears that the McCoy's are like the kid brother who gets beat up and then just comes back for more.

the guy's name was Devil Anse.
quote:Hard to believe it gets worse. We are still in 1881 correct? I know Devil makes it out alive and lives pretty much in peace the last decade or so of his life. I'm trying hard to resist the urge to look up a lot of stuff so as not to spoil some of the show.

Based on what she was saying at the Funeral I think its clear the film makers wanted us to at least entertain the idea.
And she said to leave him alone "for now" when she was talking to Bad Frank.

Yeah
Jonesy reminds me of Samson in the Bible... has a weakness for women.. even when he ought to know better.

A thread I've noticed is.. these folks defend their own even when their own are wrong.
ie... Nancy McCoy takes her brother in even though he's killed someone. Then, she defends him.

Nancy married Jonsey for ulterior motives, to plot the demise of Jim Vance. Which, has now poured more gas on her revenge by killing her brother.

When did the Mccoy boy begin to work for the Hatfields? He was supposedly working under a cover.
