So everybody is upset about the boy part.
I can see how this would ruffle feathers much more than the grown-up table line. Would be interested to hear the exact tone and manner in which it was spoken, but in text it's not a great look...

I mean it’s been used that way for a long time. Boy being racist is not new.
The problem is it has so many contexts that aren’t racist yet the people hyper sensitive about race will jump on it
Exactly, I can picture tv/movies where big redneck saying “you don’t belong here boy” to a black guy in the sticks. But giving Memphis the benefit of the doubt, and based on his other statements, I take him saying “boy” more along the lines of David is a “child” in the BB world and Memphis is a “man/all-star.” (Reserve my right to change my opinion when we actually see the speech)

Here is Tyler's take on it that he said while talking with the live feeders, but just keep in mind that I'm pretty sure Tyler and David pregamed, so Tyler has a vested interest in David (but he didn't imply that it was racist, just not respectful): Tyler's thoughts. He also clocks Ratcole & Ian's F2.
And if you are interested in some more of Tyler's thoughts, here is more of his talk with the live feeders: Tyler's thoughts 2

Kaysar was talking to David this morning and said Memphis’ comments seemed more like sports competition talk than anything racial.

Memphis said that, he is either an absolute moron or was intentionally being disrespectful, which it sounds like from the other quote above, he was.
Either way he deserves whatever hell is coming his way.
There’s a big difference in being disrespectful and it being racial.
Memphis doesn’t respect David but I don’t think it has to do with his skin tone. It has to do with the fact that he doesn’t deserve to be an all star which he doesn’t. Why Memphis is being such a dick about it idk.

I think that is it 100%.

He has just been cocky about everything it seems, even people in his group noticed it last week.
He couldn't wait to go tell Nicole F about how Janelle and Kaysar don't like her and was bragging to Cody how he go information out of Janelle while drinking wine with her.
Nothing wrong with any of that from a game play perspective but seems a little reckless with his attitude in general.
It does seem very clear while he is more loyal to that group of 6 and more so Cody. Memphis does seem to trust Kaysar and be more willing to work him with in comparison to Janelle. I was kind of surprised when Memphis told Kaysar he was open to the idea of putting Janelle up before the noms.

Dani is talking to Memphis right now trying to convince him to backdoor Janelle or Kaysar. Memphis obviously doesn't want to. But Dani is like, you just said that Janelle and Kaysar has clocked 4 people in our alliance, so if they win HoH there is a good chance that one of those four goes home. Memphis is just not having it, but if he didn't want to backdoor one of them, he shouldn't have told them that they were clocked. Memphis' HoH is a total disaster for him.

100% this
I get he wants to work with that 6 but that doesn't mean you share all the info

That Dani/Memphis talk was exhausting. Neither one gave much ground to the other.
It’s going to take some convincing for Memphis to put Janelle or Kaysar up.
Dani did say to Memphis that David was crying after noms, to which Memphis replied “I don’t give two shits if he was downstairs crying.”

Then he was being disrespectful and did it in an idiotic way that he should have known would come off as being racial.
Say “young man” or “rook” or “youngster” whatever.
People can be coy and play dumb all they want but calling a black guy “boy” is 100% going to be taken it as racial whether intended or not.
This isn’t the “do-rag” thing from Survivor where he can plead ignorance. “Boy” is a well known pejorative and absolutely has racial connotations and an “All Star” like Memphis knows that everything he says will be dissected and taken in the worst possible context.

With highs near or over 100 today in Studio City, don’t be surprised if it’s another late afternoon veto comp.

I think you’re really underestimating how much boy gets thrown around.
While I know it has racial contractions in certain contexts, I don’t think of it as a racial thing at all. You’re not going to sit in a house and think about every word you say before you say it. If you throw it around all the time in a non-racial way, you’re not going to hesitate saying it.
So while if it was pointed out to me that I said it, I wouldn’t be surprised about the reaction, I still wouldn’t necessarily equate it in my mind before I said it.

How do we even know he said "boy"? Tyler said that he said "You're at the grownups' table now buddy" in a condescending tone. I haven't seen any footage of him actually saying "boy". I guess we'll find out exactly what he said when they air the nomination ceremony, but I'd be shock if he actually said "boy".

If he had said “boy” I believe the reaction from the HGs would’ve been more than what it was.

I mean you should if its your nom speech, but I think it was just him being dumb and not racial

Yeah I absolutely mentioned that we needed to see the footage in my first post. Twice actually.

Again, IF he actually said it.
Memphis has played this game before. He’s well aware of the current jump to react to anything with remotely racial connotations.
As this board has speculated they probably had LENGTHY sensitivity training/awareness lectures for weeks while they were in quarantine, and many may even be hesitant to go after the minorities based on how last season went down and the added politicization in every day life currently.
I actually commend Memphis for not being pressured into letting players stay in the game just because of race. He should do what is best for his game. Period.
But letting his frustration for David not being an “all star” spill into language and an attack that can be perceived as racial is 100% idiotic on his part or intended in trying to make a statement.
In either case he likely ruined his game and potentially much more than that, so yeah, he should have absolutely been more careful with his words and I’m sure most people would have been.
But like they say, play stupid games....right?

From whites to blacks?
Again, people can play coy all they want but this is not a case where ignorance is a viable plea imo, and I defended the “do-rag” guy on Survivor 100%.

Dani rallying Nicole F and Christmas around the idea of getting Janelle out this week.
They’re going to force this on Memphis if one on their side wins veto. I hope Memphis wins veto.
Day just walked in on Dani, Christmas, Nicole F and Tyler discussing what their alliance name should be. Christmas walked her out of the room with awkward conversation. They’re making it too obvious.
Dani telling Nicole about Janelle coming after her. If Memphis doesn’t put Janelle up, Dani wants her and Nicole F. to form a fake alliance with Janelle/Kaysar to assure safety next week in the event that one of them wins HOH.
