The $700 check Saul got for defending the corpse frickers was dated 5/13/02, so we know for sure where we are time wise in this show.
The first season on Breaking Bad is set in 2008, so we have six years to see Jimmy become the Saul we know.
After reading some articles by people that have seen the first two episodes, sounds like tonight is going to be great.

They are hinting at another Breaking Bad villian cameo, I just didn't mouse over the spoiler text to see who it was. I can't WAIT for tonight.

I did not care for the wire piolt but breaking bad and sopranos and boardwaak empire for that matter had excellent piolts
The very first scene in bb Walt is in the desert with no pants on wearing a gas mask lol. That made me say okay shite is going to get interesting lol I will stick around to see how he got there
Sopranos Has Chris and Tony running over motherfrickers lol and his wife pulling an ak 47 on meadow lol u saw the fighting with the wife you had the restaurant being blown Up in one fricking episode I was hooked at hello
Better call Saul so far is nothing more than a breaking bad reunion hey guys loon its tuco! If I hadn't watched breaking bad thus piolt would have been dog shite. If i did not watch bb I would be confused as to why we are going from a cinibon manager to a lawyer
With that said it was not horrible but not great either

I think they're fully aware that 95%+ of their audience are fans of Breaking Bad so they probably aren't that worried about freezing people out of the backstory.

It was cool to see old places and characters, but the first half of this episode was great. It was like an art film...then it got all twisted.

Yea I have to mostly disagree, he isn't even called "Saul" at this point, he's just starting to "operate". The parallels seem to be that his "start" as an operator is somewhat out of desperation, not unlike the way Walt started in BB.
