The Shalla Bal story here looks to NOT be the Shalla-Bal as Silver Surfer story. At all.

Assuming that’s the case, isn’t is also ok to make the assumption that she is SS in an alternate universe but it won’t be here in the “current” since they’ll likely explore that?

Isn’t it possible to have it both ways and it be ok?

Will be portrayed as. Meaning there is a distinction between "Shalla-Bal" and "The Silver Surfer." And that this "Shalla-Bal" will be the "Silver Surfer," aka Norrin Radd. Aka a Gender swap.

Yep. This trailer pretty much throws it in our face that this is a gender swap of Norrin Radd with a different name. Things like this are typically a sign that they were focused on the wrong things while making the movie.

Hopefully this film will be a rare exception.

No, because this is Norrin Radd's origin story. They aren't going to use it twice.

Sue isn't the leader and it won't work if they try to make her the leader.

They double down on her maternal role in the trailer, an obviously classic character trait for her. Interpreting what we saw of her in this as "the leader" makes no sense. We see no leading.

It's much easier to showcase her dialogue in a trailer than her power.

Teaser was better. This now looks like your run of the mill marvel movie. I thought they were going to tone that down. Ah well

Nobody wants the damsel in distress Sue Storm that Stan Lee insisted on.

3rd time to attempt a decent film with this franchise. Absolutely no more originality in Hollywood.

I didn't base my comment on just this trailer, but you can pretend this hasn't been the MO of Marvel movies since Endgame if you want.

I agree with this. Nobody wants Sue Storm as leader of the team either.

ETA: Apparently we have some people who DO want Sue Storm to be the leader of the team. I stand corrected. See: downvotes.

I didn't get her "leading" at all from the trailer. what I saw, was Reed being completely out of his element and not being able to solve the issue, and struggling to know what to do - and ger narration is her trying to reassure Reed that they would do it together and to get him to get out of his own head, and work together to overcome.

Surfer CGI looks the same as it was in 07

They perfected that look 30 years ago in T2. Not much more you can do to make a human shaped blob of silver look better.

Bingo. Richards has finally met his match, he is horrified by Galactus and the fact that for once, the smartest man in the world doesn’t have the solution to this very big problem. And like always, Sue is there to get Reed’s head out of the clouds.

There’s a reason every other version of Reed Richards in the multiverse is at best, a giant selfish piece of shite, and at worst, probably the biggest bastard in all of Marvel, The Maker. Sue, Ben, and Johnny are what keeps the main Reed on the straight and narrow.

She's canonically the most powerful character on the FF, and that's not some recent thing - that's been pretty well established since the 80s. The only thing was how creative she got in deploying her powers; once it got past "turn self invisible" and "put bubble around people", it became clear she could do insane shite.

These four astronauts got special powers by the thing in space?

Why didn't they all get the same power from it? Why is there such a weird assortment of powers when they all got exposed to the same thing?

Just out of curiosity, where have they specifically detailed that this will be Norrin Radd's origin story or is that an assumption that's being made?

Trailer looks pretty good.
RR and Torch look annoying.
Sue and Thing seem good.
SS gender bender is stupid and unnecessary.
Production quality looks good.
Hovering between Meh to Decent for me.

I really wasn’t excited about this film, even after the first trailer. But this trailer looks great, I’m in.

The trailer makes it clear. This is Norrin Radd's origin story.
