In the sci-fi genre there's Nightfall(1988), based on a short story by Issac Asimov. It's pretty bad.
Another version was made in 2000 but I haven't seen that one and don't know if it was any good or not

I actually saw that one in the theater with my dad. Its the worst movie him or I ever sat through.
