My problem with Sixteen Candles (spoilers)

Did they not discuss that the wedding was the day after her birthday when they originally planned it?

My problems
1. She's not really likable or "worth" Jake Ryan. Usually in these types of movies the chick is great butterfly that hasn't emerged from her cocoon yet but she definitely wasn't that. Once she's popular Sam would've become Caroline Mulford.
2. Why did he even like her? If you want something different bang Jami Gertz.
3. Why was Long Duc Dong a dick the day after the party? This was no doubt the greatest day of his life, even if he's hungover why so dismissive of Jake?
4. It's kinda racist
What I loved
1. Caroline was total trooper about Farmer Ted date raping her.

I know that's the point, but it's not like her birthday was suddenly before the wedding. It was that way for months (as in the day the set the date). I'm not buying that nobody could see that in advance,let alone forget about it the day of.

Jake had a long talk with farmer ted in his kitchen about what kind of girl he is looking for. He made it clear throughout the movie he was getting tired of his gf bullshite. He gets the note that Samantha dropped on the floor of her wanting to be with him and probably thought it was sweet. That maybe actually going for a chick like this, he wont have to put up with the snobbish fricking bullshite he has been dealing with. John Hughes was a fricking genius. No director even comes close to nailing the eighties as he did. Guy was fricking money!

Except Samantha was kind of a snob herself. Ex. Acting like her shite didn't stink when she was on the bus. Giving up her drawers to Farmer Ted didn't change who she was on the inside. She'd have ended up as Mulford 2.0 in a month.

saw this on AMC the other day.
the part when the grandfather was on the phone with the police looking for Long Duck Dong was edited. He originally explained what Dong was wearing to the police and then he said "No, he's not retarded." AMC only showed the part where he explained the clothes to the police. The retarded part was cut out.
it's a shame because that was funny.

How do you know she would have been popular? She could have been hated and bullied by the other popular girls to the point she takes her life by age 17.

Don't you go and ruin the "being with the whitest girl in the world" wet dream of the 80's movie loving guys.
This age group being in positions of power may be the reason we're on the brink of turning back the clock 30 years politically.
The 80's are more like the 50's than these guys want to admit.
