I don't see it listed, but Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down a Dream is fantastic.

No one that deserves to be taken seriously.

Saw this one a few months ago and was really impressed:

Mr Blue Sky - The Story of Jeff Lynne and ELO

might be hard to find, but well worth the effort

Stax: Soulsville USA - 2024 (HBO/Max)

started this one last night and watched the first two episodes. Loving it so far.

Memphis in the 50's and 60's was thee home of some of the best music ever created. Must have been something in the water. I'd love to see a similar documentary made about Sun Records.

another one I really enjoyed, having seen a few Eric Clapton documentaries this one is by far the best and spends a lot of time on the Eric Clapton / George Harrison relationship

Sound City is pretty damn good.
The history of this shitty but treasured music studio and related folks, spanning from like the late 70s through the 00s.

It’s about 60% history and 40% a primer of the music industry and studio recording processes.

Was coming to post that. Life in 12 Bars is a damn good documentary and the best I’ve seen about Clapton.

It’s on Showtime/Paramount +

HYPE! is a really deep dive into Seattle/grunge history. Like, most ppl don’t know or care about most of the many bands mentioned but still kinda cool for a music docu.

Nöthin' But A Good Time: The Uncensored Story of '80S Hair Metal is excellent. Great history deep dive.
The way they approach the inevitable grunge meteor destroying the hair metal dinosaur is perfect.

I've been on a Wings kick and rented Paul McCartney & Wings: RockShow over the snow break. A good bit of the set list is songs from Venus & Mars (recorded in New Orleans at Toussant's studios).

One of my top moments is Magneto & Titanium Man. McCartney invited Marvel creator Jack Kirby to his Hollywood Bowl show, with front row seats and back stage passes to meet Paul and Lynda. During the intro to the song, I believe that McCartney name-checks Jack.

Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary - 2024 (HBO/Max, Prime) - Finished this one over the weekend. It's solid, but not overly great. But the whole idea of how the term yacht rock came to be is just sort of interesting. It's worth a watch if you enjoy that kind of music.

This soundtrack was rolling from the word go. One of the best docs I've seen lately.
