Couldn't they show something else besides Ridiculousness? Another replay or two of The Challenge, since its their highest rated show, and some late night music shows would certainly get better ratings than a 350th showing of Ridiculousness for that day. They don't have to be a music channel, they can be a teens-20s lifestyle channel. Bring back some stupid dating shows or some type of reality show would be cheap programming that would at least make you look like a real channel. How about bringing back animation. Look at all the weird stuff on Adult Swim. MTV has a great history with animation, surely they can find the next Rick or Morty or just bring back Liquid Television and do a bunch of shorts. They need a change in leadership or they might just have to go the way of Spike TV and change formats.

It’s absurd given their catalogue of past material that they can’t do any better. It’s like they’re begging for Viacom to just end them already. Comedy Central is only a couple of steps behind

Early 2000’s MTV was the GOAT with early morning music videos and those cheesy dating game shows like Next

I've been watching a lot of that stuff on Pluto TV lately. Next, Friendzone, Made, True Life, etc all cheap programming that would almost certainly get you better ratings than Ridiculousness. Looking at it from a business perspective, advertisers have to be more likely to spend money if they're not spending 85% of their time showing the same thing.

Rerun Beavis and Butthead and Daria. Hell, rerun Next; that shite is an absolute cringefest in the best ways. They have hours and hours of Real World marathons they could run.

And, oh yeah, all those 80s music videos they could be playing

PlutoTV has a 24/7 Challenge and a 24/7 dating MTV channel

edit: My bad, didn't see your second post.

Maybe PlutoTV bought the airing rights to them or something

I believe I read somewhere Pluto TV is owned by Viacom, who also own MTV. I like watching the old stuff because I'm old but MTV could do new versions of these shows and get viewers. The Challenge struggles to hit a million viewers and its their highest rated show so the bar isn't very high.

I agree with everything you said. The Challenge is popular right now. Show some older ones during the week to get even more people back to watching it.

I understand the Ridiculousness though, it makes for good background TV. No need to follow along a plot

I figured that there's no way that could possibly be correct, so I went and looked at my online TV guide and sure it is

They used to show Teen Mom like 10 times a week it seemed

Does anyone know if MTV is relevant at all with teens today? When I was coming up it was all about TRL, Real World, and Road Rules. I was never a huge fan, but I knew people my age were into it. I wonder if the platform has been passed by for the current crop of teenagers.

No, teens today are watching youtube. Its cheap enough to make a professional looking show today that you don't need a network. You do need to market it if you want people to see it though which is hard to do on your own.

In the 90s I actually loved MTV, even a goo bit of the 2000s. Calling MTV is an absolute embarrassment is a huge understatement and has been for quite a while now.
