how can someone over 13 years old like this movie?

Because it is a beautiful meditation on loneliness and what makes us human. It is funny, poignant, and easily the most moving film I’ve seen all year. Given that the first hour of the film is almost entirely without dialogue, I’m surprised children enjoy it at all, as it is a grown up movie tackling grown up themes. Just because it is animated doesn’t mean only children will enjoy it. Or even that children are the intended audience. I think Wall-E is the only great movie which came out this year.

I’m still trying to piece together my best of list and having a surprisingly difficult time. There were a lot of good movies this year, just no great ones. While there is no No Country For Old Men, there is a surprising depth to the field this year.

The movies I must see before making my list: The Reader, the Wrestler, Waltz With Bashir, Revolutionary Road, and Frost/Nixon. It’s gonna be a busy weekend.

Man On A Wire and Slumdog Millionaire are the two best 2008 movies I've seen by far. I also really enjoyed Wall-E, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder and Mongol. The Incredible Hulk, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express were pretty good. Benjamin Button, Be Kind Rewind & Burn After Reading were movies I really wanted to like but didn't. Indiana Jones Crystal Skull and Cloverfield kind of sucked.

Don't think I've seen any other new ones in '08. I know I at least need to watch Snow Angels, In Bruges, Doubt and The Wrestler before making a real list.

let me preface by saying I don't watch too many animated movies but my daughter got this one for xmas and I just watched it. I think I'd vote this one for best picture of 2008 of the ones I've seen so far. Wall-E is a great movie.

Close enough, Jesus Christ. I would have put it on my list for 2008 also. FWIW, WALL-E was awesome.
