Movie Pass has upped the game yet again. You can now get the pass for $6.95 a month but the kicker is you must pay for it up front for the entire year. It seems like a no brainer because of how cheap it is but it does make me wonder if they are seriously hurting for cash and this is how they can get some cash-flow right away. I worry about them going out of business before the 12 months is up and losing my money but I think I can see enough movies in 2-3 months to make it worth it, even if they do go out of business and I don't get any money back.

Does AMC accept moviepass? I'm seeing articles where AMC is in a pissing match with them.

Also, what happens halfway through the year when AMC stops accepting them?

We've been discussing this in the ongoing MP thread.

They take it because they have to, due to the Mastercard logo on the card. We were told last night at JL that we can't use our Stubs Premiere Rewards card with MP at the box office. AMC updated their ToS in mid-September specifically to exclude MoviePass, presumably as a move to lead up to their own subscription program.

Me? I say frick 'em. We'll just go to Regal and NCG. Even if some AMC locations let you continue using the MP card, they're still being rewarded for gold-plated douchebaggery. It shouldn't matter where the money is coming from when you buy a ticket.

I've used it at AMC a couple times and had no problem. Actually the first time I used mine I went to an amc and the girl at the front helped me out and told me how to use it correctly.

Last night was the first time we've had a problem with it at AMC. I'm happy to vote with my wallet, however.

I have been using my MoviePass card and my Stubbs card because I go to the kiosk. There is no one there to shoot me down and the machine registers it as a Mastercard so it can't deny the points.

I haven't tried going to the window and using it but I imagine that would be totally dependent upon who you got. Most of those teenagers wont even notice what card you hand them to pay with so how are they going to deny you?

I go to AMC exclusively right now just because of the Stubbs rewards. If they find a way to quit accepting the card or to deny me the Stubbs points then I will move on to a different theater. It is a really ridiculous policy for them because their rewards programs is getting people with Moviepass to use AMC exclusively and they are getting paid for those tickets.

So my girl got an email about this but said there was something about a $89 activation fee. Is this right?

No she probably misread the email

The current deal that the OP is talking about, is 6.95 a month, but you pay all the months upfront, so I comes out to about 83 dollars. That's not an activation fee, thats an upfront payment for 12 months

I’m guessing it’s more about having a more clear picture of their cash flow and have less month to monthers that could drop their subscriptions during slower periods

The activation fee is $6.95 + the 6.95 x 12 = 89.95

Anybody have a recent turnaround time for the card to arrive? I finally decided to order one.

To this point, I believe they're running on a 7-10 business day cycle for new customers. I can't confirm that, though.

I won’t use it til you can buy tickets in advance and buy two tickets at the same time. I don’t go to movies by myself, and I want to reserve my seat in advance and not have to show up early. But if MoviePass puts those features in then I’m all in on it

At the box office, we've been able to use both cards in a single transaction by having the cashier process the cards "50/50", but I agree that advance purchases and family membership would be nice.

That said, there are a couple of instances where I've gone to one movie and my wife picked another with the same showtime. Blade Runner 2049 and The Mountain Between Us was a night like that.
