I am a movie snob. Gfy

If someone like my friend Andy is arguing that GI Joe was better than District 9, or that Act of Valor was great, I will rip them to shreds. Statements like that are pure ignorance

I agree with you some bit. In regards solely to what you said about a movie just try to be fun. A lot of times people take movies too serious. On the other hand there are a TON of bad movies; more than not. I don't know if you mean there aren't bad movies though. Part of being a movie fan is getting to have your own opinion about every movie. It wouldn't be a very fun board if everybody had you're opinion "Hey this movie ain't bad! Quit being so serious!" There are good, average and bad in every genre.

so stop tryin to spoil an entertaining movie with ur "This would never happen in real life" bullcrap!!

How is this even a valid complaint? 75% of all popular movies today fall into that "would never happen in real life" category.

Crap movies that are entertaining (often because of their cheesiness) have value but only for that period you are entertained. Other movies have lasting value like fables or a lasting parable about life. And then there are the movies that are considered art...and their value is measured by quality, entertainment and creatively against similar high brow films...and then a very few are high art...where the film itself is simply meant to be experienced...just like the bottom dweller B-movie pure entertainment movies...but not experienced for pleasure but its impact on you.

Everything has value...it all depends what you want out of a film...a well made popcorn flick that serves its purpose well can be a good movie...

I don't think The Grey served the audience on what it promises to be...I thought it tried too hard to not be a pure adrenalin popcorn flick and therefore fell in the middle muck of not doing either (solid drama) or (pure escapist action) very well.

There are films that cannot be critiqued the way we critique films like Prometheus because they are so tightly wound perfect bundles that you can either say you liked it or didn't.

One of those is Joe vs. the Volcano, The Fifth Element, and Leaving Las Vegas.

They are, in essence, perfect movies. I'll make a thread on these types of movies one day.

Do you mean an intuitive response?

Fifth Element always gave me a NO...gut reaction.

Cabin Boy - yea
Joe vs. Volcano - yea

I thought Vanilla Sky was one, but a recent watching made me think otherwise.

Jacob's Ladder would be one though.

Oldies, but here are my choices for "perfect" movies.
