If we were going to spin a wheel with all the movie characters of all time on it (everyone from Tony Montana to Raymond Babbitt to Forrest Gump to Conan the Barbarian to Happy Gilmore, and so forth) and you had to pick an actor to make the selected role work, who would you choose?

You get the actor at the same age as the selected character, and they have some time to lose/gain weight, bulk up, etc., if that is necessary.

Who would you choose?

Gary Cole or Stephen Root for me - both have played a very wide, and diverse set of characters over the years.

Root probly doesn't get the credit he deserves

I'd nominate Stanley Tucci and his butch alter-ego Mark Strong.

One thing I like about Bale is he is obviously good at transforming his body in a short period of time.

Garrett Dillahunt, like Stephen Root, can do it all. Countless dramas + his comedic chops are outstanding (Sprung and Raising Hope).

Leo doesn't have the range to pull off flexible. In the right role he can disappear into it, but most of his acting roles are just...Leo. It's Gary Oldman. Gary Oldman played a midget.

Even his role in NCFOM he played perfectly with some light humor. Solid pairing with Tommy Lee Jones.
