I have read quite a bit about the battle, so will probably go see it, but as others have said, it looks like Pearl Harbor part 2. would rather see a lower budget film with better plot. it looks like they are jamming Pearl Harbor, Doolittle and I am guessing Coral Sea into it. the movie with Heston touched on them just for context, it looks like they just want as much actions as possible.

I wonder if they have ever tried to convert W.E.B. Griffin books into movies, would have to be a mini-series. the other book i have always thought would have made a fascinating movie, but would probably be too hard to make, is Red Storm Rising.

You don't get the Battle of Midway without the Doolittle Raid. Despite the limited material damage the raid caused, the Japanese military was furious that U.S. bombers could reach the home islands and bomb the capital city. Yamamoto's plan to capture Midway isn't approved without the events of April 18, 1942.

With that in mind, I can understand why they are including it in the film.

I understand that. hoping they just use it for context of the battle and not just to jam additional action scenes into the film.

I'm going to give Emmerich the benefit of the doubt on this one. This is supposedly a passion project of his that he's been trying to get made for the last 20 years. He would have made it after The Patriot but Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor forced him to delay.

It could very well turn out to be a generic action scene added in to placate an ADD-laden audience, however. I've got my fingers crossed for a solid war film.

Subs played the major role in the victory in the Pacific war and it is not covered much.

Thanks, I will look for that. I read a really long account of it once, started out with a lot of timid captains and torpedoes that didn't work or sometimes sunk the boat that shot them. They built up over the course of the war like they did with surface ships and airplanes and really did a number on the Japanese supply network.

Carson do you like the original Midway with Peter Fonda?

It’s a Memorial Day yearly watch for me.

Love the idea of it, but too much CGI. Looks like a video game.
