that's from MAY and like on page 3 of the search page. now you're just trying to make me look bad. Since it opened in Louisiana in late June, i didn't think I'd have to look all the way back in May.

i'm pretty sure i've posted about it on this board since it has come out in louisiana

What did you think of the movie?

I haven't ignored it, I've just been waiting to weigh in/read threads. Like you i took the "learn nothing" approach to this film and that's certainly the road less traveled by. and worth it. (plan on treating Submarine the same way; playing in Shreveport currently)
but back to the topic at hand, I enjoyed Midnight In Paris. as mentioned, the cinematography is captivating; I never wanted to visit Paris until tonight, ha. SPOILER SENTENCE: I'll say I really enjoyed the way the main conceit of the film was ultimately a fact, and not explained away with a gimmick. END SPOILER
all in all I don't think any of the hype is undeserved for this one. seal of approval *slaps flippers together, bleats*

You'll think I'm trying to make you look even worse now, but I'm not.
This is for future reference for all.........go to Google, then in the search box type tigerdroppings, followed by the name of the movie in quote marks. Anyone will get relevant results for Midnight in Paris or any show that's been talked about here. Of course, if you type Harry Potter, you'll get zillions of results.
As for Midnight in Paris, I liked it a lot and wanted to see more when it ended.

I used the TD search function and searched for "Paris". Third page.

This movie is certainly geared toward a certain "type" of audience. Some people will not find this movie enjoyable. A lot of the artsy stuff and dialogue went completely over my head but I loved the concept of the movie and thought this was one of Owen Wilson's best performances. Loved the scenes with Hemingway. And even though I didn't like her character, Rachel McAdams looked amazing in this movie. I disagree with most people not knowing this is/was a Woody Allen film. I think all of the people currently going to see the film are either Woody Allen fans or have read reviews on it.

Its truly showing of the quality of this board that there is only one mention of Midnight in Paris
well its not really a big movie and among the movie buffs on here, they all pretty much hate Woody Allen.
SPOILERS:
I really liked it, Owen Wilson was great as the Woody Allen character in the movie. I loved the scene where he has kind of epiphany that everyone always romanticizes the past and overlooks the important advances that we take for granted like anti-biotics.
Also Marion Cotillard > Racheal McAdams

Looking at the pic of Woody Allen with McAdams, did they base Owen's wardrobe on Woody's? Was Owen's character supposed to be a young Woody Allen? How much of the movie do you think was autobiographical?

aren't all Woody Allen pics biographical in one form or fashion?

basically all of his movies with or without him are a series of wish fulfillments where an old dude bags a young, beautiful girl and he imbues her with high culture and knowledge, and usually he has schmaltzy, neurotic habits, so in a word, yes.

Who's the old dude in Midnight in Paris?
Posted on 7/19/11 at 9:26 am to TulaneLSU
in this film's case, Allen's proxy is the metropolitan American expat artist (Owen Wilson) who's disillusioned with Hollywood, interested in mixed media (screenwriting and novels), and slinks around town with coffee and a baguette in tote. The wish fulfillment here is once again Allen pining for an idealized high cultured youth, and McAdans plays his shrew that's eventually dazzled by Allen's values. Again, not really different from any of his other work.

When is McAdams dazzled by his values?
Posted on 7/19/11 at 9:33 am to TulaneLSU
n/m, she's a bitch the whole time. point remains, high art and literary fiction are basically the idealization here.
Posted on 7/19/11 at 9:40 am to Leauxgan
I think happiness is the ideal here; for Owen happiness is found in high culture and street venders. For McAdams, who knows.

we're not supposed to give a shite about McAdams; shes a stereotypical hollywood harpy, and does a good job at it this time. i generally like McAdams as an actress (and a hot little number, ha)
the message i took from the film is to live in the present, because the past will never come again. seeing how Adriana was in the late 1800's (her ideal) made him see that he was doing the same thing, and that it wasn't healthy. so he takes his present and makes it his ideal. pretty straightforward ideas, really. wish we could all follow through,
