Midnight Cowboy (1969) is better than I remember

Saw it once as a teenager when I was learning and never thought much of it other than I felt incredibly dirty and depressed during the picture. Saw it again recently and still felt dirty, but was pretty blown away by Voight, especially, as he carried the film. Before, I actually thought he was kind of stiff in his performance, but watching it now, it's pretty mindblowing how great he portrayed a sexually scarred, false bravado, wannabe cowboy from a broken past.
Hoffman was great as well, but he really leaned on the Oscar-bait physical ailment aspect alot. Playing Ratso Rizzo, though, right after The Graduate, probably really shocked and awed audiences and critics.
Whatever the case, the film should be standard for anyone interested in the great movies of the 20th Century.
I think the big 3 that changed movies forever, and ushered in the greatest film decade in the 1970s, are Bonnie and Clyde, Easy Rider, and Midnight Cowboy. They all have the same vibe and all influenced everything after them.

If you can play Joe Buck, then Oscar Schindler is a cakewalk
Just driving around in Jon Voight's car

I was staying with some guys in Jersey and they started a conversation about how there were bars in NYC where young guys like us could go and older women would pick US up and throw cash at us.
I couldn't tell if they were stupid or if they were trying to Tom Sawyer me into a Joe Buck fiasco.
