I forgot about HBO Go (used it during the GOT era) and i have no idea wtf HBO Now was.
I want to say that at least at their beginnings HBO Now was a stand alone paid service for devices like the Apple TV (maybe phones and tablets as well) and HBO Go was used to watch HBO on your devices using your existing HBO subscription thru a cable or satellite provider.
Now may have had some additional benefits over go, but I can’t remember for sure.
AT&T may have also blurred them together a little when they started offering free HBO with various at&t owned products.

People forget that the entire DC portion of the HBO Max app was the new app absorbing the DC Universe streaming service. The TCM stuff was added, but the TCM app (as limited as it is) stayed as is.
So not only HBOGO>HBONOW>HBOMAX>MAX... there were other streaming services merged in (other than Discovery).

The funny thing is that if you watch the URL bar in your laptop browser, they still use the hbogo.max.com prefix

I said the same thing in a thread the day they announced it as Max. It should always be HBO.
Now of I could get the ESPN app to function like the Disney+ app, I would be happy. I always have to sign in and it's user interface sucks donkey balls.
