Aren't you a junior high teacher?

And what's your take on the n-word?

I sure as hell hope he isn't a junior high teacher calling himself "educated."

"The" is a definite article/adjective. It is necessary in many circumstances to direct one's attention to a certain person, place, or thing. The F word does not have that function. Good try on being clever, though.

No, I teach middle school, and I have taught high school.

It shouldn't be used. It degrades an entire race of people.

Are junior high and middle school not the same thing?

They are. Middle school sounds more educated.

I've never been a fan or unnecessary cussing. There were maybe 5 cuss words in avatar. I think they could have done without them. I'm not going to get furious about it, but movies like Pineapple Express had a lot of unnecessary cussing where they used it as a joke.

It takes a high level of education to read The Cat Ate my Gymsuit to your class of 12 and 13 year olds from East Baton Rouge Parish.

My favorite quote from him in this thread is this:
quote:

Now, I tend to associate with more educated people, so I don't hear it as much as I used to
It's a middle school teacher's world, we're just lucky to live in it.

Who is reading that?

We are currently reading poems by Langston Hughes and Shakespeare, and writing poetry.

The OP is correct.
It seems to be used for effect these days and just kind of lays out there and dies in mid air...like Madonna ripping off an item of clothing, she thinks its the act of a revolutionary, and the audience yawns.

Of course, when used naturally,it just makes the conversation seem more real-to-life. I cant see Tony soprano saying "aww shucks & neato "...

Teachers don't live in the real world. I bet that's why OP got out of the Marines and into teaching.

Real world too tough and vulgar for his delicate sensibilities.

I know I am, pimp. Thanks for point that out, though. I agree with what you said and have pointed out the same examples. The majority of attacks only prove how far our society has fallen (at least by the ratio of f'ers to non-f'ers...no pun intended...okay, pun was intended).

The lowly movie Idiocracy is proving to be more and more accurate as the days go by. Society is beginning to reflect the future as shown in that movie.

You teach middle school English. Not exactly the epicenter of higher learning. Get over yourself.

Many parents don't live in the real world and are shocked when we introduce it to them. You see, we get to see what actually goes on in their children's lives and are lucky enough to tell them about it. I wish I could be oblivious to the real world, with all I know about it. It makes me sad.
I only went into the USMC for one term because that was what I wanted. I am a home body, meaning that I didn't want to travel for the rest of my life.

You know nothing of the toughness and vulgarity that I have seen in my lifetime. Some of the things I have seen before, during, and after would turn you stomach.

Keep on, Lacour. You're only strengthening my statements. You internet e-bad arses are funny, too. I am seriously laughing.

What I do has nothing to do with morals and ethics. Internet e-punks decided to bring that into the equation. I didn't bring it up, at all.

So what if I teach 7th graders? I have taught 12th graders. I have written plays to be used in the college classroom, too. None of that matters to the discussion I began.
