Just rewatched this movie and I forgot how great Jim Carey was as Andy Kaufman. Surprisingly it did not do well at the box office and i don't think he received any awards for his portrayal. For those of us old enough to remember him it was a trip down memory lane and was even better than I remember it being. Any thoughts?

Go watch Jim and Andy on Netflix. It's a documentary of making the movie.

Read Bob Zmuda's book Andy Kaufman Revealed. It's a great book and why this movie was made. Very entertaining, goes into a lot more detail about the shite they pulled and a lot more debauchery than what was put in the movie.

Jim and Andy on Netflix was awesome, but super weird. Carrey went all the way in for that movie. Like lost touch with himself all the way in.

I miss Andy Kaufman.

He confused and captivated me as a kid. Especially his interviews.

Then he was gone. And people thought it was another stunt.

He won the SAG and the Golden Globe for Best Actor, but not sure he was even nominated for an Academy Award

It was very interesting for multiple reasons. Great insight into the process and also shows how strange Jim Carrey is.

I have a feeling the Jim Carrey story is going to end badly. I hope I'm wrong, but watching this and seeing other appearances he has made recently makes me worry a bit for him.

He seems like a very unhappy person that has lost his way.

Yeah, this is almost as good as the movie itself - Kaufman was a one of a kind guy, and Jim really channeled whatever it was that made Andy unique in that role - probably took things too far, but you have to really portray Andy Kaufman - just sort of the price of admission. Someone would have to sell out like that to play Brando, for example.

Is funny, Jim Carrey has been all enlightened Mckenna in interviews for the past 2 years. All "there is no Jim Carrey" etc..

Now he's out there speaking against Facebook and Trump.

Trainwreck a coming

I think he did, but I do think he's found himself again. He has mentioned several philosophical positions that are on the leading forefront of understanding how the mind works. The self is an illusion, etc.

Man on the Moon is one of those movies like Confessions of a Dangerous Mind where you are wondering, why didn't more people watch this?

Both are so captivating to watch.

Both protagonists had truths and lies...some mental issues, at least with Chuck Barris who was full of shite.

But both movies deal with two characters where you don't know what is really felt and real and what is conjured emotion.

I was gonna go ahead and watch the Jim Carrey documentary but decided to search for the original first, which is NOT on netflix. Probably need to watch the original first, right?

I don't think it really matters. It would probably help give a little context to what's going on in the movie if you aren't familiar with Andy Kaufman.

I've tried to throttle my movie theft so I'll probably just watch the Carrey thing. Maybe I'll take a shot every time his eyeballs pop out of his head.

Always liked that just a couple years after playing Pig Vomit, Giamatti played the total opposite role as Zmuda.

Andy Kaufman is underappreciated in general, if most people had even heard of him without seeing Latka.

Agree it was a solid portrayal. And Kaufman was a true gift to American comedy.
