Mad Men Finale - Spoilers. LOL

Just got finished watched the full Mad Men series. Loved it. Great series.
Do we like the finale? I understand the things they did with Don on the last show but It really did not feel like a finale to me.
I guess we are to assume that Better dies? I like that Peggy seemed to find a mate that fits her, Roger seems happy and of course, Joan is alone. Sad for a woman like her to be alone. LOL

The episodes preceding it were better, but the fact that Don came up with the most famous ad of all time was a cool way to cap it off.

pretty much this. i heard an interview with a director a few weeks back that said people place way too much emphasis on the finales like everything is going to be wrapped up in a pretty bow and complete.
he said what they miss is the preceding episodes that are all kind of a finale and have bits and pieces that play towards it. its like a 10 part finale for the final season.
if you look at it that way, i think the last season is way more enjoyable.

Personally, I enjoyed the finale. I remember watching it live and worrying about where the frick they were going with Don. But pointing us to one of the most iconic ads ever as his creation after that experience was great.
I cried like a baby when he got his closure with Betty. No matter how shitty things were for them, they were always still connected. Pegs finally getting someone who understands her for her and Joan being alone all seemed appropriate. Pete getting his family back was great too (even though I loved that Trudy called him on his shite). Roger revisiting a woman of his age with as much zeal was great too.
I know some people didn't like the happier tone it ended with, but I like that they didn't go out with a ton of depressing shite just because it's not "cool" to wrap things up anymore.

Breaking Bad's finale was like that. People still complained.

Also, Matthew Weiner was very, very vocal about not wanting to split the final season. But AMC forced his hand after the success of doing it with Breaking Bad. It's the one big drawback I have from the final season because the show is known for its slow burn over a large part of the season.
I think Weiner did the best he could with what he was told he had to do.

I was going apeshit! In the therapy session with the guy talking. "WHO THE frick IS LEONARD? WE'VE GOT ABOUT 7MINUTES LEFT!!!" Was all I was thinking.
I had to rewatch it to appreciate the scene. The whole finale' was agony. The entire time thinking that there was no way it could wrap up in 30, 20, 10 minutes.

Very similar. BB's best episodes were the 2 preceding the finale

I loved the way they provided closure for Don. I mean, you can't have him live happily ever after. That's absurd.
So you provide closure with he and Betty. Dons lost a ton of people and at least he's able to say his peace with her before he loses her too. One route they could've gone was Don diving out a window eluding to the shows intro. Don would always be duplicitous, so perhaps he could never be content with his life and just end it all. I think I'd of been okay with that.
Instead, we are reminded that Don is still the king of his industry. Throughout all his faults, his relationships, the people he worked with in the show, the one thing people cannot argue about is Don is the best. Every business move he made, no matter how shrewd, worked. On pitches that didn't work, the show always gave you the feeling that Don knew better about what people wanted than the people he was pitching.
So in the end, what was able to "save" Don was the only thing he ever truly loved unconditionally: the job. And I'm okay with that.

I think you missed most of the point of Don's transformation

Did Don transform?
He just go back to New York? Same life, same Don?
Who was going to get his kids? I remember him and Betty discussing it on the phone, but don't remember what they agree to?

If you can't ask other people's opinion on a message board, what's the point?

Her family. They both knew Don was a shitty parent. It's why she pushed it and he accepted it as a dying wish of hers. I think his acceptance of what he's capable of in that regard is part of his transformation. Old Don does it anyway, Betty's wish be damned, and manages to frick his kids up royally.

Joan was a massive bitch the last 3 or so seasons. Well deserved lonliness

I would say I am on the fence. I like how Don got his ending. Peggy as well. I guess it was such a good series, I would looking for something grand. I had in my mind figured that Joan and Roger would end up together. But that didn't happen. I also thought that eventually, Don and Roger would own their own service and it would end with them doing their own thing.

I think my only gripe with the final half of the final season was not enough Roger. He was there, but I guess there wasn't enough of his smart arse witty remarks IMO

Because they took him and everyone else out of the office. I didn't like the last half season at all. There was very little interaction between the main players, and that was my favorite part of the show.
