Was rewatching some Mad Med episodes tonight and I'm convinced this episode may be one of my favorite TV episodes ever. Everything from Don and Peggy's interactions right down to Duck almost shitting in Sterling's chair (
) it's just a well written, well acted episode. Nothing fancy but Draper at his rawest.
Thoughts?

SPOILER
the best television you will ever see.
quote:
Don is avoiding a call to his friend Anna Draper, who is dying from cancer. Before he can make the call, however, he falls asleep in Peggy's lap. In his dream he sees a vision of Anna with a suitcase, and when he finds out she is dead the next morning, it is no surprise to him. After a phone call to confirm the bad news, Don breaks down sobbing in front of Peggy. She tries to comfort him when he tells her what happened.
the best television you will ever see.

One of my favorite Mad Men episodes as well. I've always felt like Don and Peggy would be good for each other, and them spending time together outside the office was something I always wanted to see. To top it off, at the end of the episode Don holds Peggy's hand and for those 5 seconds they are "together." I think Don ends up w/ Peggy before the series finishes.
Loved the part where they're at the bar listening to the boxing match and all the men are yelling at the radio. Don put money on the fight and didn't seem to really care about it until the end when his guy lost.

is regarded by some as the best hour in the history of dramatic episodic television.

It's good, but not THAT good.
The "Love's Labor Lost" episode of ER is regarded by most as the best hour (at least last time I read about such things).
I'm not sure "The Suitcase" is as good as "The Carousel".
But back to the episode at hand, it was very powerful. I'm glad all the bad shite happened to Duck. I hated him ever since he let is dog loose out the front door.

I always thought "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency" was their best (the lawnmower episode).

Best episode of the series

"Signal 30" gets attention b/c of the fight/drama...but the more I watch it, it's one of the most poignant/telling...and enlightened episodes of the series about what it tells us about the human condition and man's role in this world specifically.

Love The Suitcase and Signal 30.
While we are on amazing Mad Men episodes, The Other Woman is probably my favorite. The juxtaposition between Joan and Peggy is incredible. They both are jealous of what the other one has, but both use their talents to try to get ahead in completely different ways. Joan with her body. Peggy with her mind.
It was also an excellent study of objectifying women in general.
Cannot wait for Season 6.
