Well-made and written film with nice style and a great soundtrack. You can hear the wheels start to creak moving into the slightly heavy handed third act, but by that time, the movie has long since earned more than enough good will from the audience.

A Star is Born will be better. It will be like Lala Land but rock and roll and far edgier. Gaga will win an Oscar, Bradley Cooper will get an Oscar nod for director.

You could be right. Sean Penn just said in an interview that he just saw an early edit of A Star Is Born and said it's the best he's seen in years.

I saw it over the weekend with my niece. Excellent movie and way overdue. Not preachy and, provided you aren't a huge homophobe, nothing to offend mainstream audiences. The message behind it is both timely and compelling. Everybody deserves to be who they are and be happy. It reminded me a lot of the John Hughes movies from the late 80's. 20th Century Fox took a gamble in producing a major motion picture featuring a gay main character. I hope that the film does well at the box office because it seems to have been well-received by critics.

Not much of a gamble n this day and age. Unless its just complete garbage, critics are gonna fawn all over it based on subject matter alone.

He’s alluding to the financial gamble of the movie. It’s a fairly wholesome, positive mainstream film with a gay protagonist. Not an edgy indie pandering to the left end of the sociopolitocal spectrum.

Accidentally rented it in a hotel last week so I watched.

It was a good film. They nailed the casting.

Just watched this a couple if weeks ago. Sensitive subject matter handled perfectly.

I got choked up when each of his parents talked to him after he came out.

It’s okay for you to admit you PURPOSELY watched a movie with a gay agenda.

Yea jennifer garner’s scene where she tells him to exhale was really well done.

The a-hole in me kinda kept rooting for Blue to be some ugly fat kid.

eh, it might be great, i have no idea, but based on the trailer it's much more in the vein of Crazy Heart (or the 1976 original) than La La Land. It appears to be a simple, straightforward story, stylistically speaking (that isn't a knock). La La Land was a massive collaboration of technical and artistic achievement. It just seems, to me, that comparing the two is apples & oranges.

It will be interesting to see whose movie racks up more nominations though, Cooper's A Star is Born, or Chazelle's First Man, which is also coming out this year. My money is on Chazelle.

Throw in Adam McKay’s “Backseat” which has Bale, Steve Carrell, Amy Adams and Sam Rockwell. But yea, Chazelle is a very safe bet

the movie was made for less than 15 million in a rebate state ..... wasn't that much of a gamble financially
