Three possible scenarios:

1) Jack and Co. some how stop MIB from leaving the island

2) MIB leaves the island

3) Desmond "the Fail Safe" Hume has to destroy the island in a last ditch effort.

irst off, we're assuming he's going to destroy the island (which I don't agree with.)

And even if that was MIB's plan, Ben wouldn't know about it.

Er, yes he did. Did I have a stroke. He told Ben that at the well.

good point OMG....how is he gonna convince ben to kill anyone if he is destroying the island...

Ben's with him solely right now to save his own neck, and to have the opportunity to kill Widmore personally. Why wouldn't Ben stick with MIB for a while?

I would say Jack's son's concert, as many island people will be there.

the fail safe in the hatch was to save the island if desmond didn't turn the key something real bad would happen to the island.

Somehow desmond is a fail safe to save the island when all else fails, i guess kill MIB somehow or make the light hidden to everyone even himself who knows

I'm just throwing this out there. As of now, from what I can recall, the alternate timeline has just shown the characters becoming aware of the original timeline. That can't be the whole point of that timeline, so I get the feeling that the solution to the whole "thing" will come from the alternate timeline, not from those on the island in the original timeline., at least not directly from those on the island.

Unless, I'm missing something (a clue or whatever) about the alternate timeline thats already explained whats gonna happen with it.

And is there any remote chance Terry O'Quinn won't get the Emmy? He could submit basically any episode this season and get the Emmy. Terry has done an absolutely amazing job this season. Hopefully there will be at least 3 LOST actors nominated for supporting (Terry O'Quinn, Henry Ian Cussick, and Josh Holloway or Nestor Carbonell), and Matthew Fox should finally get nominated for Best Actor and maybe even win it.

so now the finale is

I think the finale is:

Jack fails at his attempt to stop MIB.
The actions of Desmond in the flash sideways is the "failsafe" trying to set things right.

Yes, watch House last night. Not saying Terry won't win, but I would not be surprised to see Hugh Laurie win on the episode last night.

It isn't really an award for a season of work. It comes down the the episodes you submit.

I would be surprised if Laurie didn't win but that is not a knock on the work O'Quinn has done this season.

Haven't read through this so I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but does anyone think that Whidmore had a weak ending to his story.
