Never understood the hatred for Jack on this board

I hated Jack long before I ever knew there were LOST threads on this board. He's been pretty solid the last 2-3 episodes though.

he's a favorite of mine, I really like the catharsis his character has been through. I think he's had a great story arc overall.

finally a Jack centric episode

Not that it has anything to do with this episode, but I remember getting ticked the first couple of years because almost every other episode was a Jack episode.

On the Lost wikipedia page, there's a list of every episode and what character is focused on. Those first few years, Jack blew every other character out of the water on number of episodes.

Actually, I am serious. Everybody thinks Jack is trying to fix things that don't need to be fixed. But they are on an f'ed up Island with a smoke monster chasing them and the world may end if they don't do something. shite needs to be fixed.

People don't like Jack because people look to him to make a decision, he makes one with no right answer, and when it doesn't work perfectly, they get pissed at him.

meanwhile all LOST fans seemed to love Locke even though he was blowing up Submarines, hatches, and killing Boone because the Island fixed his leg.

If you stand back and look at season 3, Locke just seems insane. It's funny. The island isn't done with you. Sacrifice the island demanded. We're not supposed to be here. LOL. But Locke is probably my favorite character. Jack is very high up on my list too. I just found a lot of the season 4 episodes (and the future flashes of him from "Under the Looking Glass") because it was hard to see him drunk and stoned all the time.

I have always disliked Locke and have liked Jack... but jack still pissed me off.

eta: rose and bernard were fine

They got sent to the 70s... Sawyer and Juliet were fine, Kate was fine since she would have been sent to prison.... Jack says no we gotta get back to the present and screws up some pretty good lives... He wanted to get back to the island and i have no clue why... he got off the island and got what he wanted. Instead of living with his new life in which he was unhappy he decides to go back to the island and screw up sawyer and juliets happy life... Miles seemed fine... Hurley was cool with it, Jin was fine except wanting to find Sun again. But because jack is upset with the way his off island life went he wants to go and screw up everything just so he can have another shot.

Grow up you selfish PRick

Jack refused as much as he could to go anywhere near that Island, but Locke begged him until he finally caved. As Icing on the cake, he told informed him his dead father was alive on the Island. I would probably go back too.

I think he was only unhappy when Locke came into the picture. He was mostly okay until Locke started f'ing with his head, told him to come back, and then got killed

I don't really blame Jack for that. Everyone, save Sawyer, was fine with Jack's plan.

It was actually Daniel's plan, but everyone calls it jack's plan.

Well Daniel died and Jack presented and carried out the plan.

Yeah, everybody blames Jack for the Nuke also, but:

1. It was Daniel's plan
2. Everybody was on board with it when it went through. Plus, you can't blame Jack that Juliet voluntarily got off the sub
3. It sort of worked.

1) Desmond is Widmore's right-hand man.
2) Faraday is a musician
3) Sawyer is still pretty deranged (He was the only one against Daniel/Jack's plan)
4) Kate's fricked
5) Jack has a son but still has many of the same problems.
6) Locke has Helen and goes on the walkabout
7) Sun & Jin really are in love and Jin isn't an a-hole
8) Sayid could have Nadia if he wanted.
9) Everyone loves Hurley
10) Ben doesn't have to go through Alex's death.

I would say most of the major characters are better off.

I also seem to remember Sawyer saying on the sub about the plan "if Jack wants to blow up the damn island, then good for Jack."

It did sort of work, as in the island is sunk in alt timeline. Also, Desmond disappeared off the plane when they showed the statue's foot at the end of LAX. He literally disappeared after Jack saved Charlie. It ties in with this somehow, perhaps he was flashing through time internally again.

I think that is because it is a world without MIB.

Did I miss something?

He wasn't sitting in the seat, but he was at the airport. He had just landed.

I don't think he disappeared off the plane.

They were in the air still. he asked Rose and Bernard where he went and they said they were sleeping.

And whether it did or didn't, you can't really blame Jack. Leaders make difficult decisions. There wasn't an obvious right or wrong but a genius physicist tells you that blowing up a nuke will fix everything. It made sense and almost everybody went along with it.
