he needs them to get off the island first
maybe since he can't kill them, his next best option is to round them up and get them to leave. He doesnt know which of the candidates is supposed to replce Jacob, I guess if they all leave together, it doesn't matter - he's free

Maybe now that he knows Jack is the only one considering taking Jacob's place, he's only concerned with killing him.

Exactly how I approach it and have been over all the seasons, and I usually avoid these threads because even though people present some of their theories as a "guess" I'm pretty sure a couple of them read legit spoiler sites and want to look like the smart hero here

When I first caught up at the beginning of this season, I was really into the threads and theorizing left and right. With all of the turns this season has taken, though, it's become a pretty futile practice.

The ending scene of the last episode will have Jacob and Tom hanging out in the statue in bath robes, IMO.

She ordered Mikhail to shoot and kill her in a late season 3 episode outside of the Flame communications station that Mikhail ran. If I remember correctly he shot her so she wouldnt be captured by Locke/Sayid/Kate and have to divulge info about the Others to them.
