I have never seen him referred to by his middle name. I’ll remember that now. I always saw him called Tom Shippey.

Taking a shite on a man’s work and literature and demanding the fans sit back and take it like a bitch is such a hilarious thought by y’all.

frick you

Did were-worms exist? I always thought of them as an in-universe myth so to speak. Bilbo mentions them once early in the story if I remember correctly and also mentions the deserts of the Far East. I always thought he was speaking in a jocular manner. Either way, they were cool to see in the hobbit movie.

What a lazy take. We aren’t talking about the pelicans I’m sure we agree on a lot of stuff about our team also.
We are talking about people taking a shite on tolkien work. Quit sticking up for those 6 that we posted

It's a simple take. If they watch the show, and the show takes a giant shite on Tolkien, and they love it, then sure. But the show hasn't come out yet. It's a show loosely based on a works that people love. It's ok to want to watch the show.

And I'm sorry, you could watch the show, and if it wasn't for this board or Google, you'd have no idea what the show is shitting on because you don't know the source. %99 of the people that watch this show aren't going to know the source so most likely they won't give a crap because they won't know sny better.

Y’all go from bullying OM to try and make peace. Y’all are either with us or against us in this. There is no middle ground.

Who cares, OM has thick skin. He insults people as much as anybody on this board. And actually, there is a middle ground you're just to blind to see it. I'm going to watch it and if it sucks, I'm going to stop watching it. It's not that hard to be an extremist.

Sad that they made such a mockery of a beloved and well-known author, you mean?

Just because you want to pretend this so that you can feel offended and be angry, doesn't make it true.

I get sick of the ridiculous grievance culture and wannabe "victims" on the Left, for whom everything is oppression ... but the snowflakes in the Right are just as bad. Some of you wouldn't be able to go to sleep at night if you didn't create something to be offended about.

It's pathetic.

Sorry, that doesn’t apply here. You only feel justified in saying that because you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.

And speaking of the deserts of the Far East, I wonder if we’re to see the gates of morning in this show. The Numenorians were said to have seen it on their journeys on the seas. I think it’d be cool to see that

It's a show loosely based

This would be the problem. Instead of "loosely" basing a show on Tolkien's works, why not just create your own fantasy world from the ground up, in which you're free to craft it to whatever vision you see fit?

I'll let you figure out whey they didn't go that route.

They can't create any new fantasy with the popularity of LOTR, or anything remotely as good. Nothing else would bring in money like this and also, this is what Jeff Bezos wanted.

Do they have an agenda they are trying to push? We'll see, the show hasn't aired yet. But I do know that money and Jeff Bezos was much more of a reason this show was done rather than creating something new.

Yet Tolkien did it single-handedly.

With all of Amazon's money, and literally hundreds of content creators, why can't they match Tolkien?

That’s the point. The non-readers and non-fans think that this is nothing but dragons and wizards and swords and stuff, utterly fail to comprehend the depth which Tolkien created this world.

The dude not only created maps , histories & lineages , he invented multiple languages, both spoken and written.

This wasn’t just one little project for him to check a box and then move onto the next thing. This was his life’s literary endeavor.

No man this needs a new thread for each episode. People like to read through episode threads and see talk about the actual episode. Nobody that is trying to give this show a shot or is not an extremist shouldn't have to read through 20 pages of people calling each other soy boy, prog, commies with that half the time has nothing to do with the show. The new Game of Thrones has a long episode thread and this will get even more discussion.

Tom, Alan.. what ever.

David Bruce Banner

I was probably thinking of the artist Alan Lee. Who did tons of Tolkien illustrations.
