Variety has confirmed that Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant, The Departed) will reunite with his Django Unchained director Quentin Tarantino for his currently-untitled ninth movie, which will be released by Sony Pictures on August 9, 2019. DiCaprio will be playing an aging actor, while his The Wolf of Wall Street co-star Margot Robbie is is being courted to play slain actress Sharon Tate. A deal for Tom Cruise to co-star is also being pursued, a part that was reportedly passed on by Brad Pitt. According to the trade’s Justin Kroll, Al Pacino has also been offered a role in the ensemble, which was written expressly for him by Tarantino.
The film, whose working title is #9 (referencing Tarantino’s ninth feature film as director), will be set in Los Angeles and will likely shoot in the summer of 2018. Despite the film revolving around the Manson Family murders, Charles Manson himself will not be a lead character but more a background player. Vanity Fair previously revealed the first plot details for the set-in-1969 movie from a source that has read the script:
“Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Tarantino’s upcoming movie focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.”
Sources also have compared the film to Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction while noting it will have a budget in the range of Django Unchained, which had a $100-million budget but grossed over $425 million at the global box office.
The release date for the film will mark the 50th anniversary of the murder of Sharon Tate and four others on August 9, 1969.

That synopsis sounds surprisingly grounded for Tarentino.

Looks like QT is going back to his roots.

I like all this, but I thought his next movie was “Star Trek”.

What happened to the film where he was suppose to play some serial killer or something like that?

Jesus. Leo, Cruise, and possibly Pacino? That's like a historical timeline of the most charismatic actors of their generation. In

Guess I'm the only one that has no desire to see this. Love Tarantino so maybe after the trailer is released I'll want to see it.

Explain why you have no desire to see it if you love QT.

Well it seems like having Manson as a side character is a schtick or something to just get some easy cheap press. QT is a great director and he should be above that. I'm hoping after I see the trailer it's clear that's not what he's doing.

QT said Manson's role in this movie would be similar to Hitler's role in Inglourious Basterds. It's a back story but not the main focus.
